  1. My wife and I saw an off-duty RSO shooting fully automatic with his family at Stones River Range and you could smell the beer on him everytime he walked by. We didn't stay long that day. Couldn't beleive the other RSOs didn't say anything, he might have been a higher up for all I know. He and his wife had multiple full auto weapons and were doing regular magazine dumps. I've also heard of the staff drinking and shooting after hours at Stones River. It made us very nervous and unfortunately makes me think this happens more than we would like to admit.
  2. Added an Aimpoint optic and a Magpul rear BUIS... took some new photos... just added to the post with a range report.
  3. Bravo Company uppers are hard to beat right now for the price and for the quality.
  4. Mosins are not the best investments per say.. but you will be hard pressed to find a better shooter for the price. Ammo is very cheap as well. Some yugo sks models are also appearing again, though they will be around 350-400. I hear great things about the czech vz24 mausers that can be found pretty cheap... Southern Ohio gun has them for less than$ 150. Also...my c&r took quite a long time to get into my hands so you will have plenty of time to browse the surplus dealers Inventory.
  5. I prefer that the bolt and receiver match... that said, most of the m38s I've seen are 200-250 if they match... you must be c&r holder to make it worth buying from the surplus dealers but the sites listed above are great.
  6. You've got some killer lighting on some of those model shots... great work!
  7. Mosin 91/ 59 with that steel butt plate is quite painful. With the pad you can shoot for hours.
  8. Managed to get 120 rounds downrange with a cheap red dot temporarily mounted... this thing is incredible. I never imagined there could be so little recoil, but this setup shoots amazingly smooth. I'm likely going to put a troy folding sight on it and an aimpoint... just have to save a little first.
  9. Lot's of fun in your future! Looks incredible!
  10. I walked out of Dick's in Mt. Juliet for similar reasons, even after they agreed to price match wal-mart on wwb 9mm value packs... the sales guy started in on a rant about how 9mm wasn't good enough and how his personal .40 guns are much better ballistically.
  11. Sig has a new single stack 9mm pocket size... the P290. Looks promising, but no price info yet. Products & Services
  12. Called around and was unable to find a castle nut wrench locally so I broke down and ordered from buymilsurp.com. that is the one step holding me up right now... that and the damn rain!
  13. Thanks for the photo compliments... every AR should do some modeling before it gets dirty at the range! I hope to shoot it one morning this week.
  14. Just completed my first build with parts I’ve been collecting for the past 7 months… it was easier than I thought for the most part. I went with a complete upper from Bravo Company and built the lower using a stripped receiver I purchased from the Outpost Armory in TN. I got a great deal on a VLTOR stock and completed the stock assembly with BCM parts. I’ve read numerous accounts that an H3 buffer is incredible on this particular upper so I will give it a try and report my results. The Magpul mid-length guards have been out of stock since I started looking 7 months ago and I didn't really want to spend the money on a nice quad rail… luckily, the MOE guards became available a few weeks ago and I could not be happier with them. They feel great and look much better than I anticipated. The Parts: BCM 14.5″ upper with perm. flash hider, 1/7 twist chrome lined barrel BCM Bolt Carrier Group and Charging Handle YHM Stripped Lower DPMS Lower Parts Kit Magpul MOE Mid-Length Handguard VLTOR Modstock BCM Mil-Spec Extension Tube Kit with H3 Buffer I followed the tutorials at Brownells and AR-15.com… very helpful! I didn’t have all of the “recommended†tools but I did just fine with a brass hammer and some punches. I should have taped a bit more to avoid some scratches but I’m overall pretty satisfied for my first lower build. I wish that I would have considered the color and smooth finish of the BCM upper when I purchased my lower, but it didn't enter my mind until I got home with it. It doesn't bother me as much as I feared it would but I will keep that in mind if I build another. I’ve yet to decide on an optic or rear sight and will be getting the pad that goes on the VLTOR stock. I will probably tweak some accessories in the near future such as the grip and trigger guard. Range report to follow! ______________________________________________ UPDATE 11-25-2010: The rifle is nicely balanced and shoots fantastic! The magpul rear BUIS and the Aimpoint Comp C3 2 moa red dot complete the package and give a perfect lower 1/3 co-witness. I’m very impressed with the Larue Tactical LT-150 mount, it seems incredibly sturdy. I had realized in the first set of photos that my castle nut was on backwards, easy fix. I also swapped the stock trigger guard that came with the parts kit for the Magpul MOE version. I’ve got 220 rounds of cheap russian ammo through the rifle and zero problems so far. It’s amazing how smooth this rifle shoots! I've been approached every day at the range by fellow members asking what caliber I'm shooting... they are surprised when I say .223. Apparently this rifle doesn't sound like most AR rifles for some reason, apparently louder and deeper. Maybe due to the shorter barrel or mid-length gas system... or both? Added Parts: Aimpoint Comp C3 2 MOA Magpul Rear Flip-Up BUIS Larue Tactical LT-150 Aimpoint Mount Magpul MOE Trigger Guard Additional Photos and Info
  15. Does this problem occur with the factory guide rod installed? Perhaps it would be better to just return it to the stock rod if that fixes the problem. I like TW25B for slide rails... doesn't take much.
  16. Had a similar problem.... 18 1/2lb spring fixed me entirely. I was going nuts til I figured that out. I went with wolf spring.
  17. I think your speedloader choices are limited to this thumb loader... it helps alot, but isn't necessarily a speedloader. Loader AR-15/M16-.22LR Thumb Loader by Christie's Products
  18. "The Violin Shop" in west Nashville is your best bet. The owner, Fred Carpenter, is very good to work with and will demonstrate the tone of different instruments if you are unable to play well yourself. They have a trade-in policy where they will always give you 100% of what you paid when you decide you want a nicer instrument... I'm sure sure the condition needs to remain excellent, however.

    SIG 522??

have had my 522 for about 8 months, shot many thousands of rounds without a single malfunction of any kind. Even waited to 2-3k rounds and a few range sessions before I cleaned it and still wasn't getting any jams. I use the federal 550 pack from walmart.
  20. I've read that some manufacturer's started using plastic guide rods since they are self lubricating and can help performance in desert conditions, such as the middle-east. Combine that with saving money and we'll likely have plastic guide rods on everything.
  21. I don't recall classic arms having any m44s at the moment, but that is a great site to watch out for... get a C&R License and keep up with some of the following companies... classic arms: Classic Arms Inc. southern ohio gun: Southern Ohio Gun Distributors, Inc., Your Global Connection for Firearms, Accessories and Ammunition! J&G Sales: J&G Sales Allan's Armory: http://allans-armory.com centerfire systems: Centerfire Systems, Inc. - Your Home For Ammo, Firearms, Magazines, and Gun Accessories Samco Global Arms: https://www.samcoglobal.com Century Arms: Home Page I just picked up a matching 91/59 carbine length from Allan's Armory for $135... it was their lowest grade and is one of the nicest Mosin's I've seen at any dealer or gunshow... no pics as of yet. I'm not sure of the exact difference, but those should be in the same ballpark as the M44s. $150 and up should be EXTREMELY nice or rare.
  22. Primarily mandolin and guitar... been an engineer for 6 years since graduating MTSU, although doing more photography recently. Also play a bit of clawhammer style banjo and attempted to play the fiddle but had to give up. Just adopted a Bourgeois Vintage D acoustic guitar and am in love!
  23. You simply take a punch to the retaining pin, it will take a pretty hefty whack to get it to move. The pin will come right out. It is good to do every now and again. Sounds like cosmo in the firing pin channel. Popped primers tend to blow residue back in there as well. I stay away from wolf, brown bear and monarch are made better.
