  1. We've lived in our house in Donelson for about 6 months now and it's not uncommon to hear gunshots all day long. We've thought this was pretty odd, since we are in the city limits. Turns out there is a police shooting range at the airport and it's basically right in our backyard. I've heard about 200 rounds this morning so far. It sucks pretty bad that I have to drive nearly an hour to Owl Hollow to shoot yet I get to listen to gunshots every day I spend at home. Makes me jealous!!!
  2. Don't drink much these days, but... White Russians! Forever branded the official drink of the "The Dude!"
  3. Update: I received word a short while back that they now stock P6/225 holsters. Too late for me, as I went with a Crossbreed, but others might be interested.
  4. Ellendales in Donelson is located in an old historic house and features live jazz... very romantic, great steaks, and reasonable mid-level prices. Sunday brunch is spectacular as well. My experiences with Stoney River are very good, but it is very expensive. Same with Melting Pot... perfect for a big date but be prepared to spend just under $100 without alcohol. Buca Di Pepo is great but not as romantic as you probably want. More of a casual family restaurant. Mama Mias is horrible and should be shutdown. It tastes like out of the can pasta and they served us desert that was at least 4 days old. Apparently, it used to be good but management has changed often. Yellow Porch is not my favorite but the ladies LOVE it.
  5. Not even close to the same thing! And why must it be a Yankee thing?
  6. Yeah TBI is in the East Nashville area which has many very cool restaurants and such, but can be very dangerous as well. It's a very trendy arts district. The 5 points is the place to visit if you stay in the neighborhood. Rosepepper is supposed to be excellent and Rumours is wonderful and a bit fancier. For great East Nashville pizza, Pizze Real is awesome! For burgers, hit up Fat Mos on Gallatin Ave... but take your carry piece with you! It's a bit of a drive, but come out to the Loveless Cafe Wed night and catch Music City Roots as it is broadcast live on WSM... it's only $10 and is always a great show. It's way more rootsy than the opry is. I will be there taking their photographs. Music City Roots | A weekly live radio show from Nashville, Tennessee on WSM 650 AM. My family is hooked on Pie in the Sky pizza, which now has a downtown location... you really must try this before you go! It just may be the best pizza I've ever had, next to some of Chicago's fine pizza joints. For shopping she will love Green Hills Mall, Opryland, and although it's a bit far, Cool Springs is loaded with shopping. Also Providence, in Mt. Juliet, is a very cool modern shopping center. My fiance likes providence a lot, it's just up the road on I-40 east. Lots of eating around there as well and you can visit Reloaders Bench, which many of us like quite a bit. I second the Guns and Leather recommendation... awesome store and worth the 30 min drive!
  7. I've worked as a part time computer tech for quite a few years now... I've found the best solution is to backup your data and reformat the hard drive, reinstall windows and your applications. It is a pain, but not much more than downloading all kinds of scanners and crap, not that they can't be effective. They will all leave traces and what's called "bit rot" where windows never quite runs the same again. A complete reformat is a guaranteed fix. Don't just reinstall windows, do a complete long reformat on the hard drive, also called "writing zeros to the hard drive." Make sure you have your netbook restore cds handy. For prevention, I haven't had a single bit of trouble since I switched to Mozilla Firefox many years ago... you should definitely use Firefox if you don't already. Also stay current with your Windows updates... can be very important! AVG Anti Virus is a very effective, and FREE, anti virus program that everyone should use as well for prevention.
  8. Well put... thanks for the feedback guys! I am a professional audio engineer and can guarantee that hearing loss is a real thing. You may not go completely deaf, but you get what's known as the "4k notch" in your audiogram results... sometimes the notch is HUGE. 4k is one of the most important upper midrange frequencies... we rely on this frequency range to distinguish words. That's why people with hearing loss can hear you talking, they just can't tell what you are saying. For an audio engineer, it can mean career death and horrible sounding music. I've worn custom fitted musician earplugs for about 10 years while attending concerts. They allow all frequencies to be heard equally, but at lower volume. Watching the sniper programs on the history channel got me thinking about this, as some of them in the past reported hearing tree limbs cracking revealing their enemy. I've gone home from the range with my ears ringing just from shooting .45s, and I had earplugs in, although they obviously weren't sufficient. Those sniper rounds are significantly louder. Now I use plugs AND muffs.
  9. I've read a few posts that say with their particular gun it made them look like they had an erection. That could be worse than the gun print in some situations. I checked these out but ended up with a crossbreed and have never looked back. Alot of it will depend on the pants and the weapon.
  10. My fiance and I were given a frozen deer roast and some sausage. We've never cooked deer before. Anybody got any suggestions on how to prepare? We want to make the most of the gift. It's supposed to be pretty good.
  11. Just curious if soldiers wear some sore of hearing protection while on duty. Seems like they would all come home deaf if not, so I assume it is required, but you also would not be able to hear people sneaking up on you as easily. Anybody know firsthand?
  12. Perhaps it is dumb to listen to people on a forum and taking everything they say for granted. Cheers to Mike for his willingness in this experiment! If nothing else, it might just prove we don't have to rush home and clean within an hour... or even a week.
  13. Don't do it unless you are having trouble. The early p6/225 design had some trouble feeding hollow points (usually only 147gr) so most of those ramps get polished or reshaped, fixing the problem.
  14. I'm very interested to hear your results! I've wandered myself about cleaning during wartime.
  15. You should check out one of those cool little pocket holsters I've seen posted on here, they might be made by one of our members, but I can't remember.
  16. Agreed... you can find them for $130 or less if you keep your eyes open. I've seen them for less than that on the net and at gun shows just in the past few months.
  17. The firing pin should rattle freely when you shake the bolt. Avoid putting any oil in the firing pin channel. May be worth cleaning the firing pin channel once again. One blown primer and it is extremely filthy. Is your firing pin bent or mangled in any way? Light strikes really could only be a few things and you've already eliminated the hammer spring. Without the receiver cover and recoil spring installed, dry fire and watch the hammer as it hits the firing pin. Does it strike cleanly? Is there wear at the top of the hammer that would indicate friction from rubbing on the recoil spring? Headspace and firing pin protrusion and are the next things to check, both being extremely important for safety as well as functionality.
  18. I emailed RK and there is no show this weekend, but the 16 and 17 in Murfreesboro is on.
  19. CCI mini mags and Federal AM22 have worked well in our hp22. Lots of lube is needed.
  20. Used to listen to them religiously. Got to see them in Chicago for the Metropolis ptII tour and they blew me away. One of the tightest bands I've ever seen live. I kind of outgrew the style after that, however, and never explored any later albums. The guitar player, John Petrucci, is simply one of the best. They changed keyboard players a few times, I liked the guy on Awake. The pre images and words vocalist was very 80's sounding... James Lebrie is a little too operatic, being a former opera singer, but definitely better than the sound they had before. The classics albums: Images and Words - very mechanical but flawless. Probably overproduced but that's part of the charm. Straight of of music school sound... classic melody and solo sections. Awake - debut of Petrucci's 7 string Ibanez, this album was much heavier and darker. More approachable to mainstream rock crowds. A change of seasons EP - 24 minute song experiment is one of my favorites, classic melodic sections and vocal melodies. The 7 string acoustic guitar intro is amazing in and of itself and lasts 2 or 3 minutes. Metropolis pt II - I purposefully skipped an album, as I didn't care for it. This is the next good one. A return to the melodies and themes that we fell in love with. This album is a bit different due to the keyboard player but it is basically a sequel to a song, Metropolis pt1, off of Images and Words. It is a return to the progressive style of that album. There are some amazing solos hidden on this album, even some of the keyboard solos are incredible!
