I'd make the trip to just about anywhere in Middle TN. I'm not so sure that I would travel to Knox, Chat or east TN though.

But the Chiappa doesn't accept 1911 parts like beavertail, trigger, etc. I like the customizable aspect. I liked the Chiappa that I checked out but the lack of true functionality turned me off to it.

This is going to be fun but quite expensive. I just went through and priced everything I need to get a solid frame and I'm probably going to end up just shy of 500 dollars into it. Now before people tell me to buy a rock island or anything else, that isn't what I want and its my money so bugger off!

I think the 1:9 is the best bet for most people as well since it will stabilize a heavier bullet like a 69 grain but won't overspin a 55. Since most people punch paper with 55, the 1:9 seems ideal and it is what I use.

My biggest problem with the SR9c is that they don't make it in OD green.

I'm going to check the local shops first but if they don't have what I want then I'm probably going to start with the caspian frame from midway.

Will do. I think I am going to use a Tac-Sol upper since I can get it already threaded. Last round hold open isn't a big deal to me since this isn't going to be a training pistol but tac-sol does have it. I am going to order my frame sometime this month so I can get started. This project may take a little while. haha

No. The Magpul handguards are designed to use the m4 style handguard clip thingies. Sorry, I don't know what its called. Those will be in the wrong place. You could put a free float mid-length tube like a railed forearm over a carbine gas system though. You would just need to get a low profile gas block.

I'm not worried about the price of my frame and whatnot because if push ever came to shove, I could always just go to 45. The nice thing about doing it this way is that I could switch over. Plus, I can build it exactly the way I want it. I'm not sure how I feel about the slide locking back. I don't consider that a deal breaker necessarily. My 10/22 doesn't lock the bolt back and I love that gun.

A carbine length is ~7 inches. That is what will work with the current MOE handguard. A mid-length gas system is ~9 inches. Magpul is releasing MOE handguards for this later this year. Look at the pictures to see how much of the barrel is covered and you can see the difference. I don't know much about the performance difference between the two. I just prefer the look of the mid-length system. Also, both uppers in this thread already have a front sight so you can take that off your list. Or, you can get a railed gas block and use the magpul flip ups instead of the FSB.
