  1. I carry a 226 and a 239. The 226 is heavier then the Glock 22 I used to carry but with the right belt and holster, I hardly notice anymore. I picked the 226 over the 229 for the extra barrel length. Magazine capacity is the same however, I like the plastic magazine floor plates that come with the 229 mags. The mag plates on the 226 are metal and have an edge on them. I've torn holes in several shirts because of them. You can change them out but I haven't done it yet. The fit and finish is nice on Sigs but the frame is prone to knicks and scratches. If you carry it daily, it will definitely wear and show it.
  2. You can get it duracoated fairly inexpensively.
  3. Were you shooting low left with your right hand as the strong hand? If so, you are anticipating the shot and are pulling the gun down when you expect to hear the bang. Get some dummy rounds and mix in with your mag. If you are doing that, the dummy rounds will help point it out when you hit one and flinch. In the meantime, practice dry firing.
  4. Thanks Batman. I'll swing by tomorrow and see if the one in Franklin has them.
  5. I've got iron sights on it now but want an Eotech in the future. I probably won't be putting anything on it for magnification. I primarily bought it to shoot no more than 50 -100 yards. I just have this red dot lying around and wondered if it was worth spending any money on buying a riser for it so I can co-witness with my iron sights.
  6. Are Tasco Red Dots good enough to put on an AR? I have one laying around and thought about trying it out until I get an Eotech or better. I need a riser before I can use it but wanted to get some input before I waste my money on the riser. Thoughts appreciated.
  7. I finally made it to the range to shoot this bad boy. I'm more than pleased. Glad I ran across this deal. I'll be keeping this one. The trigger was way smoother than I expected. Since it's used, I don't know if it had work done or not. I'm betting not.
  8. I did a lot of research around Christmas time and ended up buying a Nikon D90. It came with an 18-105mm lens and I purchased a 50mm f1.4 prime lens. Go to KenRockwell.com Chances are, he has reviewed in depth anything you are looking at.
  9. Easiest thing would be for him to hunt with black powder. Black powder only guns aren't defined as "firearms."

    1911 Killer

Nice. I just got one of those myself. I like those grips. What kind are they?

    1911 Killer

It's a little different than a standard 220. This one has a 5 inch match grade hammer forged barrel. I have one in SAO and it shoots way better than my 226. The SAO trigger is smooth on mine. I can't say it shoots better than a 1911 because I don't have one to compare it to.
  12. Same thing happened to me yesterday with my 27. It was also around 6 or 7 rounds with a full size 15 round mag. It didn't have any problems with any of the other mags. I'm betting mag spring is the culprit. I've had that mag fully loaded sitting on a shelf for a long time.
  13. I agree. I carry one daily concealed while outside the pants and it's not that bad. I do have a good sturdy belt though.
  14. Hopefully this isn't someone on the board. This is the gayest thing I've seen all day.

    first gun glock 23

I can almost bet since you are brand new, you are shooting low left if you are right handed. Most new shooters do that when anticipating the shot and push the gun down just at the point when they think it's going to go boom. Practice dry firing (when you've properly cleared it!!!) like has been suggested. When you go live, it doesn't hurt to have a few dummy rounds mixed in your mag. If you jerk the gun when it hits a dummy round you know you are anticipating the shot. You can work on that by dry firing. It's a mental thing that can be overcome. When you aim, get a good sight picture and only focus and concentrate on the front sight. Don't focus back and forth on the target. You want to keep the front sight centered between the rear sights but they will be blurred along with your target. Focus on the front sight and after taking the shot, get another sight picture without focusing on your target. Once you are done shooting, then go look at your target. Good luck. You made the right choice by going with the .40. If you got a new Gen 4, I hear they have the recoil of a 9mm due to the recoil spring redesign. With that said, I'm not sure if the Gen 4 23s are out yet.
  16. I picked up a Sig P220 Match .45 with a 5" barrell in SAO. I've shot plenty of P226s and P229s in .40 but never a single action only sig in .45. I was originally in the market for a 1911 when I ran across this pistol with a price I couldn't pass up. I'm interested in hearing from anyone that has shot one or had one before I put a bunch of rounds through it. It practically looks brand new with not one single scratch on it. I figured if I didn't want to keep it, it has some good tradability.
  17. The interesting thing is, under current federal law, if a firearm or ammunition was manufactured in a state and never left the state for any reason, the federal govt. has no jurisdiction over it for most federal gun crimes except for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime. For instance, if a convicted felon gets caught with a Glock in GA, the govt. has to prove the gun left GA and affected interstate commerce. There are some other crimes where when firearms are involved there isn't a need for interstate nexus but I can't remember all of them.
  18. Federal law enforcement officers don't derive their arrest powers from state laws. I've seen that posted before and I don't know where that came from but it isn't true. They get their power to arrest for crimes against laws of the United States penal code from the federal government. Each agency has their own statute of authority. Some states give federal agents peace officer status and some don't. What that means is they have the power to arrest for misdemeanor crimes that fall under the state laws and not federal laws. FYI, TN gave federal agents peace officer status however, I doubt you'll see any federal agents out writing traffic tickets and making misdemeanor arrests. The following is a reference from wikipedia but summarizes where the ATF gets their authority: "......Special Agents are empowered to conduct criminal investigations, defend the United States against international and domestic terrorism, and work with state and local police officers to reduce violent crime on a national level. ATF Special Agents have some of the broadest authority of any federal agency; 18 U.S.C. § 3051 empowers them to enforce any statute in the United States Code. Specifically, ATF special agents have lead investigative authority on any federal crime committed with a firearm or explosive, as well as investigative authority over regulatory referrals and Cigarette smuggling. ATF special agents also often enforce violations of the Uniformed Controlled Substances Act, and have the statutory authority to conduct narcotics cases independently of the Drug Enforcement Administration or any other agency......"
  19. I shoot a 640-1 and can group pretty well out to about 15 yards as that is as far out as I've shot with it. I used to be all over the place with it but after painting the front sight bright orange and getting a feel for the sight picture, I shoot it better than some of my autos. That gun made me a real fan of wheel guns. I carry it almost exclusively now. I'm still amazed at how accurate those short barrels can be. I use the same thumbs forward grip as I do with my autos. I let them ride the cylinder. After hundreds of rounds I haven't been burned by any gasses.
  20. There will be no confiscation. Not in this lifetime anyway. It would be the beginning of another civil war for sure if they tried. Sure, other countries have done it but America is not like "other countries." Hopefully even the morons in DC know that. The can't even organize a good BBQ much less a mass confiscation. Stop being so paranoid. This whole tracing system only applies to crime guns and is a tool for law enforcement.
  21. An FBI agent shot and killed Weaver in the back. This happened after a US Marshal had been killed. Again, get your facts straight.
  22. No prob. I need to simmer down. I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone and after re-reading my posts it sure seems like I am. That is the problem with communicating in an internet forum.
  23. Did you not read what I said? I returned them to their rightful owners.
  24. They don't. What part of the tracing process do you not understand? They don't have a database. They can't pull up Johnny Dope and tell anyone, including themselves what firearms Johnny Dope has. If Johnny Dope has a gun turn up in a crime, they trace the gun by first contacting the manufacturer. They can't begin tracing a gun without the make, model, caliber and serial #. Stop speculating and get the facts straight. I am a pro-gun patriot that would die for this country and my rights as a free citizen, yet I support the ATF and their mission. They do more for the community than most of you realize by keeping violent felons off the streets than your state does. They take the worst ones that TN chooses to keep letting out and put them behind bars for a long sentence to serve. I've met many ATF agents (am close friends with some) and don't know of any one of them that are anti-gun. In fact, most are gun collectors themselves and will tell you to spend your last dollar on a gun if you want. Their main mission is combating violent crime and if you aren't a violent felon, gang member, dealing drugs, dealing firearms without a license or illegally dealing firearms to prohibited persons, you shouldn't be in fear of them. Like I've said before, hate on the politicians that are being elected and appointed. I know some of them don't even support some of the NFA regulations but politicians made the rules.
