  1. I have been to The Safe House. They are great. I was researching some of the safes they carry in my price range when I found this one. I'm interested in the modular type because it would solve a major problem of getting it where I want it. I'm sure if the modular type weren't bolted down it would be fairly easy to get them apart. However, bolted down they should be pretty secure. I guess it all really depends on how accessible you make it.
  2. Any opinions on the modular safes like the SnapSafe Titan? It's rated for 1 hour of fire protection at 2300 F with a 3/16 solid steel door and 1/8 solid steel body panels.
  3. It's possible. I've put several thousand rounds through my 226 but have never had a FTE using remington and speer ammunition. I've read some complaints about the federal champion ammo. There was a thread on another forum where someone noticed the casings were cracked after they were fired. I would start with some different ammo before I would blame the pistol.
  4. Just FYI, when you fill out the 4473 and put that you are the actual buyer for all the lowers when in fact they are for multiple people, you just committed a felony.
  5. I've got one and love it. I've shot out to 615 yards with it and it grouped pretty well using 168 grain Federal rounds. I was using the factory stock and shot from a bipod.

    Will it strip the bluing?
  7. This was previously a long post that went completely off topic. I let a few comments get me there. Now, to stay on topic, I do find it interesting this Travor guy is from Chicago.
  8. Get a picatinny rail mount for a remington 700 short action. They are about 30 bucks. I've got the same rifle and have a Millet TRS-1 4-16x50 scope on it. It's a nice scope for $300.
  9. There is no database but the gun can be traced from the manufacturer to the first person who purchased it at an FFL. The FFL has to maintain the A&D book and 4473.
  10. I like sigs and have 3 different models but if I had to choose a full size to carry for law enforcement duty, I'd go with Glock or the M&P. Consistent trigger pull, lighter, more rounds etc.
  11. Thanks to Clinton, they will be recycled into a car bumper or the like. Clinton signed into law nonsense that won't allow any federal agency to sell their unwanted firearms to the public.
  12. I just bought a 700 sps tactical in .308 and put a Millet TRS-1 on it. I shot 20 rounds during the barrel break in process and haven't really sighted the scope in yet but it appears to have a solid build and the optics are awesome for the price ($300). My only complaint so far with the entire setup is that I bought too tall of rings. Medium rings with the 20 moa base sit up too high for me to get a good cheek weld.

    Harris Bipod

Thanks. I opted to save the money for now since I still need to buy some ammo for it. I'm sure I'll be wanting to upgrade the bipod later at my expense. Know what ammo works best in this rifle off the shelf?
  15. I just bought a 700 SPS Tactical in .308. I ended up deciding to put a Millet TRS-1 4 x 16 x 50 on it. The other one I was strongly considering is the SWFA SS 6 x 42. They both get excellent user reviews for the price ($299).

    Harris Bipod

Do I really need a bipod that swivels? I'm trying to justify the extra $50. I'll mostly be shooting from benches or level ground so I doubt it. It will be going on a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308.
  17. I'm in the market for a .308 for the same reasons as you and I'm definitely getting a Remington 700 sps tactical. I just don't know what scope I'm putting on it yet. You can get the rifle for $550 shipped from budsgunshop.com. I couldn't find a deal like that locally.
  18. Only the frame or lower receiver is considered the firearm under federal law. Parts are never considered firearms. Some manufacturers just mark them for some reason. 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(3) - The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; ( the frame or receiver of any such weapon; © any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm. I say parts are never considered firearms but parts that fall under NFA are firearms such as machine gun sears, suppressors, etc.
  19. He definitely has mental problems of some sort. I like how the began the story with "we randomly chose this one." Yeah right. Someone couldn't resist airing that one. Check out his website. It's hard to read. http://politics.freesitenow.com/basilmarceauxforgovernor/

    FN .30-06

Thanks guys. This is a great rifle. It was neglected for years so I took it apart to clean it and remove the dull black spray paint the previous owner sprayed on it (same as on the scope attached in the photos). Overall, it's in great shape (including the bore) except for where the magazine rests in the stock, the stock is cracked. You can only see the crack if you take the stock off. No telling how long it has been that way. Think I should try to glue it somehow or just leave it alone?

    FN .30-06

Anyone have any knowledge about these? I know it's an FN Commercial Mauser but it appears to be a little different than what I can find online. It has a custom adjustable trigger and the stock appears to be custom. It was deer hunted with back in the 50's and 60's so I know it is at least that old. I would just like to know more about it and about what it's worth. It's not for sale. That browning scope on there is horrible and needs to go unless there is a way to change the reticle. You can barely see the cross hairs and the dot is tiny. I tried to hunt with it but I have to hunt for the cross hairs too much. http://picasaweb.google.com/113392729468190171246/FNMauser?authkey=Gv1sRgCI-V9daBgZu4Jg#
