BATFE ACKNOWLEDGES A NATIONWIDE DATABASE OF GUN OWNERS
redfsr replied to Tim Nunan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
First hand info...... I've returned guns myself after learning they were reported stolen even though the serial number was not provided. Oh yeah, after the ATF traced them for me. -
BATFE ACKNOWLEDGES A NATIONWIDE DATABASE OF GUN OWNERS
redfsr replied to Tim Nunan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ok, I take my comment back about the report not being accurate. I read the link. The report is accurate. The interpretation by those upset is not accurate. It is simply a tool to trace where a gun came from that is involved in an investigation by the means I described above and in that link. That tracing system has been around since licensed dealers were required to maintain the 4473s and A&D records. If someone close to you was murdered and the murder weapon was recovered do you think there shouldn't be a way to trace where the gun came from? If multiple convicted gang banger shoots you with a brand new Glock 22, should the police not be able to trace the weapon to see where it came from? Many times, stolen street guns get back to their rightful owners because they didn't know the serial # of the gun to give to the police so it could be entered into NCIC but tracing it reveals the owner had it stolen during a burglary. -
BATFE ACKNOWLEDGES A NATIONWIDE DATABASE OF GUN OWNERS

That report is not accurate. Etrace is an online database used to submit data from firearms recovered in crimes, abandoned, etc. to be traced. The ATF does not have a magical database to pull this info from. The ATF calls the manufacture who tells the ATF the distributer the gun went to and ultimately the ATF learns which FFL sold the gun. From there, the FFL looks in their A&D books and 4473s to find the original purchaser. Etrace used to only be accessible by ATF. All other agencies used to have to submit the form by fax or email and now there is a website where the trace request can be submitted. Once a gun has been traced, that information is kept in the database. There is nothing illegal about that and nothing to worry about for law abiding, responsible gun owners. -
He was being a d**khead period. He was argumentative and clearly wanted a confrontation. As the officer walks away to check on the law (as we all assume) he follows behind asking numerous times if he was being detained or arrested. The guy simply wanted attention. I believe he wanted more attention than he got from this officer but attention nonetheless. Is that the kind of person you want setting an example as an open carrier? I hope not.

That was actually his police radio. They churp like that when you key up the radio. Similar to a nextel but not quiet. I don't see the validity in that accusation anyway that it would keep it off the records. Doesn't really matter. He wasn't as professional as he could have been but I think he handled it pretty well especially since the guy filming comes across as a major d**khead.

NYC undercover stings expose 'gun show loophole'
redfsr replied to Metalhead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
After watching that video, I'd be willing to bet some of those guys are going to be prosecuted for dealing without at license. It's clearly not a private sale when you have a table and sell hundreds of guns. A private sale is someone with a few guns they no longer want. -

Sorry, I don't have a letter. I called them and asked. -

The straps are 100% legal. This is per the ATF Firearms Technology Branch. If they are rigid fixed handles they are not but the canvas or leather straps are fine. The collapsable stock in crotalus01's avatar is however an issue. You can't have the shoulder stock on there unless it is registered as a SBR. -
That would be a straw purchase and you could be charged for lying on the ATF form 4473. It's an out of state transfer and the gift exception wouldn't apply since you would be compensated. As others have already said, use an FFL to FFL and you'll be fine. Also, it's against federal law to ship a firearm through the USPS and to ship through Fedex, UPS, etc, you have to declare it. I don't believe they will touch it unless it is going from an FFL to an FFL. Why can't your cousin just go buy one himself?

I have a Stag and love it. They build them all in house and have a really nice fit and finish. I've fired many rounds through it now and have not had one single malfunction. You should be able to get one for that price range.

A can of wasp spray works pretty good too. It's unconventional to use for self defense but works better than a lot of cheap pepper spray. Most cans of wasp pray reach out to 20 feet or better. The size of the can could be a problem though if she carries a small purse.

That has to top the list of the dumbest cases wasting our court's time that I've ever heard of.

ATF KILLS TN FIREARMS FREEDOM ACT!
redfsr replied to GLOCKMEISTER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What concerns me the most are groups of people with a lot of misinformation taking action against the government that will in return create more legislation regulating what we can and can't have. Look at prohibition. I wasn't around back then and don't believe prohibition should have happened but the bootleggers took up arms and fought "the man" which led to the GCA and NFA laws. They outgunned the police with machine guns, SBS, SBRs and look what happened. Bottom line, the ATF or any other federal agency is not out to take our guns away. Someof our political leaders are the ones that want to do that but can't because they aren't getting the support needed. The best course of action is to stay a law abiding citizen so that when the day comes to vote their butts out of office, you can legally do so. 2 more years and a lot can change in the House and Senate if people get out and vote. 3.5 more years and things can really really change. And don't forget about the local elections. This whole gestapo comparison is absurd and is the very reason people like George Bush Sr publicly resigned from the NRA. -
ATF KILLS TN FIREARMS FREEDOM ACT!
redfsr replied to GLOCKMEISTER's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Jonsaiga, if a firearm does not affect interstate commerce, the federal govt will not prosecute the case. It has always been that way. After this TN law was passed, the ATF issued a statement to FFLs telling them they are to continue doing business as usual (i.e. doing background checks, keeping 4473s and logging their A&D books). I would suggest most people are upset about this because they still aren't allowed to make NFA weapons. If you make a machinegun, SBR, SBS, suppressor, etc., those firearms fall under the NFA act and an interstate nexus is not needed. I don't see what the big deal is. Personally, I don't think the ATF is against law abiding citizens from owning firearms. If you aren't a previously convicted felon or otherwise prohibited person, dealing firearms without a license, trafficking firearms, etc., they aren't going to mess with you. I am a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment but if we deregulated firearms sales so that anyone no matter what kind of background they have can buy them, that would be a bad thing. I know criminals will still have guns. They always have and always will to an extent but at least they just can't walk into a store and buy one. Matt, do you really want to go to battle with law enforcement? Law enforcement officers don't create laws, politicians do. If you have a problem with a particular law, you are planning to fight the wrong fight. -
How long does the fingerprint analysis take???
redfsr replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
redbarron06, Just FYI, since 2003, the ATF has been under the Department of Justice. A bunch of their forms still say Treasury because they didn't want to waist money to have them reprinted. Good luck on getting the stamps back. I'm about to submit one for the 1st time myself for a suppressor and SBR. Due to the current state of "war" in Mexico with the drug cartels, the ATF is currently focused on committing as many resources as possible to help with firearms being trafficked south of the border so I doubt they are too concerned right now asking congress for more money to staff the NFA branch. -
I wouldn't function anymore without my iPhone. It has so many uses I can't even begin to list them all.

I like how small and light they are if you plan to pocket carry but didn't like how it wouldn't lock back on an empty magazine. I don't think the Kel-Tecs do either though. Anyone know why they don't make them so they will lock back? Is it simply a build cost issue?
-
I checked them out this morning at the Outpost Armory. They seemed really solid and I almost bought them simply because of the price but ended up buying a set of the ARMS 40l-sp instead. I couldn't resist the notched aperature on the set of ARMS. If I got the Magpuls I was planning on swapping out the aperature for one of the notched CSAT aperatures.

Anyone have any experience with the Magpul flip up sights? I'm in the market for some new sights and the price is pretty good for these.
