  1. Mike - That will be great. I've been eyeballin' tacticool scatter guns lately. Shooting your police magnum will be a treat. I appreciate the offer. See you there. Kirk
  2. I'll be there. The kid won't. May bring the only shotgun I have: Rem 870 Super Express Magnum. Not ideal, but it's not like I'm in contention for the club's top shot throne or anything. See you there. Stages look great.
  3. You guys are as bad as my kid. He's got his Turtle Beach headset, modi'd controllers, etc. Makes me laugh. He got bored with the last release after earning what he called 10th prestige - naturally. ?No idea what that means? He then started glitchin'. Again, means nothing to me. All I know is he'd spend hours getting places in maps you weren't supposed to go by jumping off buildings and firing RPGs to get somewhere else. If he was an adult buddy and not my 13 year old son I'd recommend he get himself laid. I let him stay home from school yesterday to play COD BO all day - guess father of the year is out? Anyway, you guys have fun with stuff. Perhaps one day when I'm bored I'll pick up a controller and give it a whirl?
  4. Looks like I'll be able to make it out tomorrow (sans kids). I'll throw a table and plates in the car. I've also got a case of clay pigeons I'll throw in.
  5. A friend sent this via e-mail and I thought some of you may enjoy it. Read this slowly, let it sink in, and do VOTE in November! This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, not anti-republican nor anti-democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering! . (Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years). ------------------------ 545 PEOPLE -- By Charlie Reese Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 330 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.... . The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 330 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .. If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ and Afghanistan, it's because they want them in IRAQ and Afghanistan. If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power.. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided, the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees... We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
  6. I'm going to try and make out it too. One or both of my sons may join. I'll keep an eye out here for sodas, plates, napkins, tube steaks, buns or other needs later this week. I'll also plan to throw in some US Treasury, IDPA and F.A.S.T. targets + my timer just in case some want to have a little contest. Sounds like we have the 'black rifle' arsenal complete, but if someone wants me to bring my Bushmaster with Aimpoint ML3 red dot just give me a shout - you're welcome to shoot it. Does anyone have an Aimpoint 3X magnifier? I've been eyeballin' one of those, but haven't had a chance to see one mounted.
  7. Anyone know what the Ag Center policy is on HCP holders entering with loaded, concealed handguns? In other words, is the place posted?
  8. FWIW - With suggestions from MacGyver, willis68 and others I recently purchased a Zero Tolerance 0350 and Spyderco para military - both with s30v. They are both great knives and I plan to post a review of the two here in the coming days. I opted to spend a bit more and get the s30v using this rational: my EDC knife would likely get subjected to some abuse over time and I wanted something that would last. Additionally, I figure if SHTF this is what I'd have with me and I'd likely ask it to do things knives weren't exactly designed to do. I'd rather have a steel that will hold an edge longer and be more durable when I really needed it. As for sharpening, I happily accept it will take more time as a trade off. Hope it helps.
  9. Here's a link to a recent (Australian) e-bay add for similar. Price of $105 AUD (approx $103 USD). Not nearly the shape yours is in. USA IMPERIAL SCHRADE OLD VINTAGE H-50 BOWIE KNIFE BMATE (eBay item 110569552062 end time Aug-13-10 11:29:36 EST)
  10. It's been said here by others, but the guys at the Safe House are great to work with. They recently sold me a Browning Platinum 47. Their price was competitive and they took a great deal of care moving it into my home. I highly recommend them.
  11. Ya. That and the 1,450 rounds of 45 ACP I've purchased in the last two months despite not owning a 45 ACP... I keep telling her it's only to soften the blow of buying the 1911 AND the ammo at the same time. Let's just say she isn't quite seeing things my way.
  12. Thanks for responding everyone. Ok, I'll admit I'm a geek. I created a spreadsheet to compare everything from blade steel to clip position while researching each of your recommendations. I narrowed my choice down to two knives: 1) Zero Tolerance 0350 and 2) Spyderco Paramilitary. The S30V blade steel was a big decision factor for me. However, since I couldn't decide between the two, I ordered both! Did I mention my access to this forum is going to get me divorced? I was able to pick up the ZT for $112 and the Spyderdo for $140 at the knifecenter with free shipping. Thanks again for your input. I'll let you know what I think once they arrive.
  13. :poop:Arrgghh. Keaton and I can't make it this weekend. It's his birthday (13th) and we've got plans with friends and family. The stages look great. You guys have fun.
  14. I pocket carry my Sig P238 in a DeSantis Nemesis nearly everyday. This is especially true during the summer months. It's the only weapon system I carry May - Sept with rare exception. It's true my draw is slower, firepower is diminished, etc vs full size IWB. However, it hurts more than my fist when it hits you and that would be the next best option when it's 100 degrees outside:D When cooler weather prevails, I carry a Glock 23 IWB in a Comp-TAC MTAC. I do this with and without the P238 as a BUG.
  15. Because I'm a noob to the knife thing, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations on an EDC folder. I do own a few knives and have developed at least a cursory preference on a few things: 1. My first purchase was a Gerber aluminum Presto 3.5" w/ serrated blade. An inexpensive option. Knife has performed well enough, but I find it too bulky for EDC. 2. I gave my two sons each a Benchmade 585SBK mini Barrage for Christmas last year. With a blade length just under 3" and a closed length of 4", it's very easy to carry. This is one of their Blue series knives and made in the USA. A bigger knife may be better, but I'm less likely to actually carry it based on previous experience. 3. My buddy gave me a new SOG Trident TR-1 as part of a trade that I sold here recently. It appeared to be a good knife, but because it was similar in size to the Gerber I felt it was a bit too big for my EDC preference. I'm interested in your thoughts, but do have a few specific questions too: 1. It seems that most of you prefer non-serrated fine edges for EDC. Why is that? It seems to me that serrated in both a versatility and survival situation would be beneficial? 2. I'd like the recommended knife to be versatile. Meaning, I'd like to balance the self-defense and daily versatility for EDC with a knife that will also perform in a survival situation should SHTF. I'd prefer to stay at a price point less than $200 if possible. Thanks in advance for your input. I'm looking forward to reading your responses.
  16. I too am "cross-eye dominant". It's not terribly uncommon. Like many of you I've had to adapt. FWIW every instructor I've been exposed to advised tilting or turning the head. http://www.youtube.com/user/shootingcoach?blend=2&ob=1#p/a/u/1/ANDRm3FKWts
  17. Sounds like things are off to a great start. I hope this experience will be a positive and lasting memory for you. Don't travel much? Just remember: (1) wear flip flops in the shower; (2) don't lay on the bedspread or decorative pillows; (3) don't drink coffee from the pot in your room; (4) and wash your hands after touching the TV remote control
  18. Me too! Also sent the link to a couple of buddies who are permit owners. Thanks for doing this.
  19. I've been getting the warnings using a Mac with Safari too. To temporarily disable: Safari>Preferences>Security>uncheck Fraudulent Sites
  20. My son (12 yr old) and I ventured out to spectate last month. Work got in the way and prevented us from returning to participate. We've cleared the calendar for Saturday. Count the two of us in. Reshoot poor stages? Geez, I might need to tow the trailer to carry all the ammo we'll need... Our goal is to become better shooters. Therefore, we're open to suggestions. Can't wait! HOGNUT, et al: Can I use a IWB holster worn at 5 o'clock? I never carry OWB so I'd rather not practice that way.
  21. First: Thanks for providing such a great site! I visit TGO nearly everyday. Is it possible to create a forum section where TGO members can identify the business they're in? I'm not talking about gun or gear shops - I understand the need for those vendors to be authorized (and the forum already exists). I'm asking because I'd like to find a good alarm tech and HVAC guy in the Nashville area and I'd prefer to support fellow TGO members where possible. BTW - I work for a large company that doesn't sell direct to the public or provide services. Therefore, I'm not asking for selfish reasons. Any possibilities in developing something? Thanks
  22. Several years back my wife drops me and my youngest son off a barber shop. We had just moved to TN and had no idea where to go. As it turns out, this barber shop is one of those quintessential places where older gentlemen hang around and 'gossip' - in other words, a 4 year old isn't likely to have had his hair cut there in years. Well, my son is one of 'those moods' and is asking about everything! I can hardly keep him holding still to get his hair cut. Barber finishes with him and as I'm climbing in the chair my son says he has to poop and if there is a bathroom? Nervous old barber points him to the back and starts cutting my hair. After a few minutes the barber gets concerned and asks if my son is ok? He advises there are cleaning chemicals in bathroom and did I need to check on him? I advise no he knows better. Barber goes back to cutting my hair. Just then a guy walks in the shop for a trim who has had both arms amputated and has prostetic arms with pinchers for hands. He sits down. (From this point forward everything plays out in slow motion). My son exits the bathroom and sits down a few chairs away from the new visitor. Then he notices! "Hey mister! What happened to your hands"? I about sh*% myself. Turns out the guy was cool about it and shows my son how moving his arms makes his hands open and close. However, the barber is slower than cold tar and has only buzzed the sides and back of my head. I say it's good, pay him and leave. I look like Lyle Lovett! We're standing in the parking lot when my wife and other son show up. She takes one look at me and starts laughing so hard she's crying. We still laugh about the whole thing today.
  23. I agree with MacGyver. Why? 1. No "my way or the highway" from Todd or Dustin 2. Good split between classroom and range time 3. Focus on the fundamentals - no Ninja Rolls! 4. Practical skills focus and drills to improve them 5. Round count well balanced to expose flaws in an individual's technique and equipment w/o inducing total fatigue Have a HCP or pistol in the home for defense? Go to the range regularly and plink or even do some speed / accuracy drills? Think you're well prepared? I thought I was and boy was I wrong. Take the class. If you're like me you'll have a much better sense of your capabilities and you'll end up with a long list of things to work on. Thanks Dustin. Thanks Todd.
