  1. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it, I know I did! It was great to see some of you again, and to meet some of you for the first time! Thanks Timestepper and Spots, you guys made the event awesome. I was gonna demo the same stuff, but you guys had better stuff and better stories! Smokin45 has some good pics too! We should host another in the not too distant future, a little farther north for those that drove so far this time!
  2. Nope not at all brother! You're welcome to jump on in! All are welcome, bring your friends! I'm bringing my forge. It's a pretty small, as in one spike at a time, propane forge. I use pliers, so if anyone has tongs and would like to use them.....
  3. I'll hang out for a while Fri night, just in case someone shows. I'll be getting a few limbs/brush together to make a shelter or two and establishing a fire pit, dig the hole for the solar distillation example, but if I don't hear anything from anyone at dark, I'll assume the folks are coming in the morn and sleep in my nice comfortable bed! My number is 865 313 7849 if anyone needs me or just feels lonely...... I'm off to bed.
  4. Thanks for the tip. I wish I had saved them to a thumb drive, I had all kinds of government manuals then my hard drive died.... And all this time I thought I was getting away with something, just to find out it was free.... I'm a lousy thief.... Lol
  5. Glad to hear it whitewolf! The more the better! Is everyone planning on coming Saturday? I won't stick around Fri night if no one will be there Fri.
  6. I was planning on 9 am. I was planning on doing some methods of obtaining water, and dew will be used. Plus if folks are planning on getting there early, and they are late, we won't have wasted a good part of the day.
  7. I wish you could have made it! I know you'd have a lot to offer! I'm gonna try to update this a little bit. I usually only have a few minutes of Internet usage available at best. ( called and basically got "whelp" in response to the problem. ) There will be camping Friday and Saturday night. I should be getting a few things made today to use during instruction. I'm still working on getting the most out of the meet. We'll be doing most things on Saturday so that those that drive can leave at a decent time on Sunday. I have a couple people that have offered to lend their knowledge to teach others... the more the merrier! If there is something you've seen on a show and wanted to try, now's the time. If you're looking to something specific let me know and I'll see what I can do!
  8. I'll see you there brother! Fixing to update the post in the survival forum while the Internet is working!
  9. Get one handmade? Certainly somebody around here can make you a one of a kind knife for that much. I've owned a S&W neck knife and it was super bad to rust. IDK which model I had or if that's a common problem for neck knives....
  10. If you have to push on the blade for the assist to work, and not a slide or a button, it's legal. From what I've gathered anyway....
  11. Got mine, they look awesome! I'm fixing to look up some how to's just in case. Thanks again!
  12. I was reminded of a story..... I was driving home one night down 411 and there was a lady driving with her interior lights on. As we got a little closer we noticed she was working a cross word puzzle. A crossword puzzle while she was driving, at night, with interior lights on....
  13. This law is a waste of time. I know of nobody that shoots for .08. They drink until they "feel" like they can still drive. I loathe drunk drivers. I think its one of the cases in which I could kill a man. If they want to make an impact on duis they need to make it not worth the risk in the first place. This is just the same for every other crime, the people in charge just care about the money.....
  14. If we seem to anxious he may decide to sell us the story chapter by chapter!
  15. I was planning on the same sort of thing with my kindle. Then, dozens of books in, the battery died. No big deal normally, but when I tried to charge it again I discovered the screen had been smashed..... I liked the kindle because of the 3 month or something battery.... Anyway, I have a few things I didn't see mentioned... The Bible Conversion charts and a scale for battering. Some translational books. You never know who's gonna be here after in all comes down. It might help to learn a little Chinese if need be. Maybe a few references to what symbols and signs the military of other nations use, ie; mine field, radiation, or no trespassing. A friend of mine had books upon books of educational textbooks, military manuals, religious books, study guides for everything. He said that inside his hard drive he had enough knowledge to re-educate whatever world came up after us. I guess as long as they had a computer. He said it would "fast forward" the learning process if we were to start back at the stone age. I apologize if someone had mentioned any of my previous contributions. I'm spinning in circles in my hammock chair and might have skipped one or all.....
  16. I bought one a couple years ago. I was going back and forth between the garrett 250 and a fisher f2. The 250 has more user newb friendly options, but they told me after you use it for a while, you won't even use them. The F2 also gets a little deeper. So far, I have found a hammer, cheap knife, and some change. I have only been able to get into city parks.... Happy Hunting Lionsfan! That franc sounds cool. I'be always been more interested in the history than money. I hope you find plenty of that too though!
  17. This is awesome! I knew I'd love it ever since you referenced the Deuce and a half! Lol Looking forward to the next chapter!
  18. I bought my last Kershaw on Ebay. The guy was named Kershaw Guy or something and had a website by the same name. He sells blemished and non blemished knives. I bought a blem for carry. It was originally $40+ and got it for $15 shipped I believe. The only blem I could find anywhere is they put xxxx over the Kershaw name to signify it as a blemished knife. I never found a thing to qualify it as such. I lost the knife a couple months later...... Just an idea.... Oh, and I LOVE Kershaws. They seem to be excellent knives and not super expensive. The auto assist option is awesome as well. I've carried them for 10 years.
  19. I literally bought none of those, but still got the ticked wife for trying to buy them. Boy am I lucky........
  20. Hate that this happened to you. It seems folks never get to enjoy good days as much as they used to and when they do, this happens. While I was checking out the article I noticed a few other headlines..... Sad times. I hope everyone recovers. That's a good story safeandsecure
  21. It's looking like 6-1&2-2013. It's the first weekend in June. We can also try to trim into Saturday only if there's an interest to. We can camp Fri night as well if we'd like.
  22. I read in a knife mag once about machete making in the philippines. One guy held one sledge hammer on the ground while 2-3 others used their's to pound out the blade. Precision. They used old hoe heads to make the knives. Looked good too!
  23. If you still have a couple, is like em for my wife and I. Might even use one in the meet up. I'll try to send a PM.
  24. Hosting a little get together soon. The lengthier details are in the Survival and Preparedness forums. The short versions is we can all talk and teach a little of what we know, and everyone may learn something. There's room for camping and shooting and all that good stuff. I think it'll be a good way to pass on info on things most of us are interested in and build confidence in each others abilities, should something happen. Plus it lets us know who we may be able to count on in the area during emergencies. Basic survival, first aid, and making some primitive knives will hopefully be included. Just wondering if anyone else wanted to get in on this great time. Keep in mind this should be a kid friendly event. If you'd like to lend a hand with teaching what you know to others, let me know what you can pass along. I'd like to have an itemized list of people/lessons so that I can make a guideline of what we'll be learning. Looks like the short version wasn't so short..... Thanks ladies and gents!
