  1. More for self defense than anything. The physical activity is just a bonus.
  2. I'm interested in getting into martial arts for physical activity. I have read that Krav Maga is the most practical self defense art there is. Thoughts?
  3. If you have a gaming system look at "rocksmith". I got it for Christmas and you can plug your own guitar in and play along with whatever you want. I'm not 100% that it teaches how to read music but I do know scales and "lead" type guitaring is involved.
  4. Let me borrow your AR and ammo and I will put those rounds in for ya.
  5. Started reading Lights Out and a group they mention uses M1a's and a Glock 17 as their standard. Different authors I guess. As far as a .22, I personally have one ready.
  6. I went hunting for the first time last year and I would like to try out turkey hunting. I've never been and would love for someone who has some experience take me out and show me some tricks. I'm in Knoxville, but will meet about anywhere. Thanks!
  7. I use to do this to some friends (it was a hotel costing $30, but same principle). It's fun.
  8. It's a hypothetical question. So far I think the thread has been fine with no name calling and some people examining what they have for their own survival. This is a light hearted thread. I'm not asking which gun is better, I'm asking which is better in a survival only situation (which one would you outfit a group with).
  9. Reading this entire thread I agreed with True Grit about the better carry class. Then I got to the post about all that other stuff and will have to disagree. I think the class should be more involved. When I took my class, there was a woman there who was at least 80. I'm glad she sees the need for a permit, but I'm honestly surprised she didn't shoot someone. She was waving her .22 all over the place. When she would ask a question, she would turn and bring the gun toward the entire class. She continued that even after many warnings. She passed and I'm sure has her permit now. I think she should have had a little more one on one. I think it's scary sometimes who passes the class, but it's the instructors discretion and I don't question their judgement. With the other stuff True Grit has said, I wholeheartedly disagree. No guns in church is stupid. The church I attend has a security patrol b/c let's face it. People get shot in church (I.E. the guy in Knoxville who came in with a shotgun and started shooting). I think we need to maintain our current rights and fight for more. I will say though I think the average permit holder does need more training though.
  10. I have no doubt that the 1911 platform is a better shooting platform (at least for me). I'm saying, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, etc...would you grab a Glock? I would based on reason previously stated. Not an XD, or M&P b/c parts aren't laying around everywhere.
  11. So I have a question and would like your input. I don't want this to turn into a war. I just finished reading the books "patriots" and thought about how they prepared. If you read it then you know that the group had specific gear to buy before the collapse. The guns they group chose were: Colt 1911 Remington 870 AR-15 HK-91 I think the AR-15 and Remy were good choices. The HK, at least now, wouldn't be a choice due to price and availability. So while reading, I was thinking...why would they choose a 1911 over a Glock? I love 1911's and have some. I love Glocks and have some. I figured if you were trying to determine an across the board gun, I would favor a Glock due to less parts for the gun, parts availability, and just overall ease of use/fixing. To me, 1911's are a little harder to "tinker" with. Thoughts?
  12. Watch that scene again if you DVR'd it. Rick never pulls the trigger, AKA the cylinder never turns or the hammer go back. I know it's a zombie show but I thought it was funny. You can see him just flinch the gun and the effects were added.
  13. My whole family are attorney's. It's almost 11 on my end of the state, but if tomorrow you still need someone, PM me.
  14. Holy run on sentence!! To answer your question, at least offer my opinion, you may be able to do something. If you are truly concerned for the well being of the child you can contact DCS. They will investigate. As far as her lying and stealing unless you can prove she is stealing that's a moot point.
  15. I set mine up at 15 yards (the owner's manual says either 10 or 20, I don't remember). My thought was it won't change that much in a self defense situation. It's more of a point and shoot design anyway. As far as 40 yards out for coyotes. You can't see the laser in the daylight so you would be able to use it only at night. I would shoot blindly in the night anyway, so the sighting in for that far wouldn't work for me.
  16. Super great guys there. They have done multiple no charge little things for me, and because of that, I bring them all my business.
  17. When I watched the video, I didn't see the wreck at first. I had to rewind it. So maybe...
  18. So it's been a little while since I got out shooting. My buddy called me up and said he had a 3/8 inch steel plate that he got for shooting and wanting to know if I wanted to come along. I got in my car with my AR-15 and Glock 30 and off we went. We set the steel plate (on legs) 100 yards away and took aim. I had a blast. The plate was 24 inches x 24 inches and the reassuring "ding" after every 5.56 round was awesome. I was shooting 62 grain ammo and was surprised that it cut right through the steel almost every round. After we put the AR's up I thought it would be fun to take aim with my Glock 30. The 4th shot rang out indicating a hit followed by several more. I'm no marksmen but I thought that was pretty good. I was shooting a subcompact pistol 100 yards out. That was my day and I would venture to say it was the best day I've had in awhile. Just wanted to share.
