  1. Can I bake the slide with the novak sights on???????? j/k. now i just have to find a way to get them off.
  2. I should have it done this weekend. Nervous and all.
  3. It's been 7 days for me, I feel your pain. Yes, I thought I would set some record, but alas, I will run to the mail box everyday till I get it. As soon as I do, I will go directly to walmart PACKING HEAT.
  4. I just purchased some K&A .45 acp JHP ammo from the gun show. A bit over priced for reloads, but I had already paid admission - so I wanted to get something . I am very curious about the expansion. What is the easiest way to see the expansion on the bullet? Call the company and request a photo of an expanded round? They don't have a website. Also, it is a 185 gr bullet. How well do they fare in 4inch barrel 1911's?
  5. I am going to put a new finish on one of my pistols with this. I only want to do one. The paint is about $30 plus shipping (another $13). Eeek, paying $43 dollars for something that I won't use much doesn't sound appealing at all. Ergo, I am searching for 1 of 2 things, a) someone who will sell me the rest of their can. I am only painting my slide and I will pay shipping someone who wants to go in on half or 3rds - because again, I am only going to use it to paint a slide. then I am going to hand it off to you - each can has enough to do about 4 pistols. P.S if anyone wants to do the same thing for ammo I am also up for that. That shipping kills me. I hope I am thinking logically, my ex took took all of my cents in the divorce.
  6. What a shame. I really want one of these. I don't think that this will deter me from buying it. Is this a common issue? I haven't heard of it much.
  7. Had a class on the 25th, Passed, Best 8 hour course ever at Guns and Leather 100% written/100% range (put 20 rounds in the head;)) Went this morning for DMV (3.5 hours and I got there before they opened, Hart Lane location, avoid if you can) Got finger printed right afterward at the Metro School Board Office. (took all of 5 minutes AND met my future wife- dear god this woman.....) Came home and looked in my mailbox... nothing yet. Now, I get to shop for holsters!

    pt 609 vs 709

Also FYI, the 609 was notorious for poor accuracy. my 709 is VERY accurate, even shooting from rest was a chore with my millenniums.

    Auction prices

met an estate auction owner not too long ago. they price guns very high because they get a lot of uninformed buyers. think pawnshop. he said that the most popular auctions are the ones that include firearms. everyone thinks that they are getting a deal.
  10. Thanks! I am going to raise money and buy another. Keep the one I have and if the other sells then awesome. If it doesn't then thats ok too!

    New Toy

I really enjoy mine. I'm at 400 flawless rounds. Hope you have the same experience. BTW, a hogue jr and and a PF9 pinky extension will help with the grip.
  12. Yup, i do have a lot of crap that I don't use. I was told today by the gunsmith and G&L that just installing the front sight could make me shoot low. I am calling Outpost on Monday to see how much they charge. I would certainly like to keep what I have. Thanks buddy! sound advice!
  13. Thanks Dolo for the info. I too considered the front site only, and that's what I would like once I can find them. There is an American Classic (similar to yours) with night sights and some other enhancements for $590 right now, My buddy has offered to sell me his Kimber for $720. (He will take $600 And I have considered going full size since I only carry the 1911 during winter or use it as a nightstand gun. I would take an RIA tactical and add the night sights and have all of the creature features, plus some cash to pay for a bobtail. But all of the drop in parts really start pushing the cost due to shipping and fitting. I could be off base, and I appreciate your feedback.
  14. They have been wrong, infact, it is indeed able to saw down a tree with an AK 47. takes a while, but, its possible.
  15. Tall male figure not identifying himself as police or fire department climbing through a broken window, or kicked in door, entering into my home at 3am. There is nothing to negotiate or think about - that's a properly identified target. Castle Law. Now, low profile GI sights, adrenaline pumping, I can see his silhouette coming at me.... lining up those small sights isn't something I want to be huge factor in my next move. I could be wrong, but that's another thread in a different category. I want it to be as easy as possible. And you are nitpicking, without the courtesy of helping with a productive response, IMO. I may be a bit cranky and over sensitive. For the record, there are 3 1911's that I can buy at this time for $600 bucks that fits. One happens to be a nice name but if I deliberate to long the chance will be gone. but $200 is a big expenditure on leisurely items when you have two small children. So I have to make these choices wisely and informed.
  16. I have a RIA 1911 commander (midsize). It is a FANTASTIC gun! But, I want to get some new night sights on it, and I would like to get an extended slide release. So $100 bucks for the sights and $60 for installation at guns and leather and $30 for the slide release. $200+ for me to get it to where I want it to be. for now. I paid $430 for the gun. now with these items, its a $630 gun. albeit, mine and customized. But, should I be able to sell the gun for $370, add the same +$200 for a total of $570, I can get into another 1911 with more bells and whistles. Now, the RIA has been FLAWLESS in function and 'smack yo mama' accurate. 20 yards is a cakewalk for this weapon. If I get the next gun, there is the 300 round range minimum before I will carry or trust it. Would you A: Invest in the night sights, slide release and labor and allow your gun to be gone for 3 weeks and hold yourself in the fetal position until your baby is back? AND you miss out on checkered grips, crisper trigger and comfier grip safety. B: Try to sell the gun and get the other weapon when it sells. Hoping and praying that you don't have a night time encounter. You could hit center mass, maybe... in the dark. C: Buy the next one anyways. Who cares what your wife thinks whilst going into debt because you spent $200 on Fiocchi 200gr HP .45 ammo that you're hiding at your buddies house. Not to mention, the 300 rounds I will also need to run through, trips to range, more accessories, ooh look- I need this (random unneeded part) purchases. Someone will eventually buy the RIA.... right? Help me out fellas. What would you do. FYI, Glow in the dark paint is not an option.
  17. Where did you get your 1911?
  18. I want to replace my GI sights on my RIA. I can purchase the sights, but I dont have the tools, patients or knowledge to change them out. Is this generally an expensive procedure at a gunshop? I know they can be notoriously generous of infamously expensive for basic services. What is a good price to pay to have this done? Should I beg to use someones sight tool and do it myself?
  19. That's way too much. let me know your source so I can talk to them and see if I can talk them down. If not, I will take the hit and buy it. Save your money. Every Taurus (4) that I have had has been great and flawless (5,000+ rounds combined), but there is a chance that this one might give you a venereal disease. Better let me handle it.
  20. Thanks guys so much! I will try both kinds and let you know how it works out.
  21. I have been considering carrying underneath a tucked in shirt during the day with a body wrap. Does anyone else do this? I know it's not ideal and a pain to get to but, better than a stapler.
  22. Today me and my 9 year old took my pt709 to the range. I bought this gun because it's fairly inexpensive to feed, easily concealable and comfortable to CCW when I go for runs. I set up the target at 5 yards, loaded the gun, got the target in my sight picture. Took my time, squeezed and BANG! Nothing on paper.... WTF?!?! took another shot, missed again... So, I started to aim at extremes, pointed at the bottom of target, nothing. Aimed at the top of the target and hit the bottom. So, I adjusted the sight and began to hit paper. after 20 rounds of walking it in and frustrating the range cops with my constant adjustments (They were great, really- very nice and helpful), and after 100 rounds of 147 grain jhp's, I was able to get a 3 inch group with 7 rounds at 5 yards with a super slim, extra compact 3 inch barrel. I was very frustrated at first, and blamed the gun, then I blamed the ammo, then I was sure that there were small earthquakes making me miss, then I shot from a rest. SOB! It was me. At five yards, it looked as if I had peppered the target with a shotgun. I adjusted my grip and squeeze and started hitting with consistency. The trigger and size is very different from my 1911. But, for everything that the gun is; small, light, well built, reliable, and a great ccw or backup (and accurate in the right hands)-- it does it all very well. 300 rounds of federal JHP, no fte's, stove pipes, misfires,- I can say I trust my life to this gun. With more practice with these ultra compact pistols, I will be as good with this as I am with my 1911. I would highly recommend this handgun.
