  1. im a mall ninja. I like it. it should fare well in the zombie apocalypse.
  2. Yes, and $400 is all you need to pay to get a quality new 1911. In my limited and insignificant experience, EVERY penny above that isn't buying ANY reliability or large amounts of accuracy. Just nicer comforts and cooler looks. Ask most RIA/AC owners and they will happily let you compare it to any other 1911 out there. Is a Dan Wesson nicer? yes. Can I shoot a small water melon at 20 yards with either a Dan Wesson or RIA... Yup.
  3. Cocked, locked and Safety. I am clumsy and paranoid... Unlike my uncle, he was dyslexic and paranoid, he thought he was watching everybody...
  4. Sorry to hear that. That's honestly the first negative thing that I have ever heard about RIA. I would give it another try it if I were you. It has to of been some sort of malfunction in the gun.
  5. "I was always curious about them. Some swear by them. Others say they are garbage. I got to shoot a Hi Point for the first time a month or 2 ago. I reserve bashing something until I try it. Well after shooting my buddy's, I'm in the garbage camp. First mag wouldn't feed anything. No biggie. He grabbed the spare mag. We shot about 2 mags, go to load a third and the slide won't release. Just locked rear. Maybe both camps are right. Some are great, some are POSs? " Same can be said about a Kimber ultra carry
  6. Thanks for posting. I will definitely think twice next time I holster.
  7. Now, here is the situation. I have been carrying a 1911 commander. I have also been training and running/biking at night. I really wish I was able to carry more comfortably while riding/running. I think that it would be a combination of holster and gun size. So my first inclination is check to see if the pt709 is fun at the range. I am interested in the gun because of price and features. Not to mention 9mm is an easy round to find. I can't afford to buy it straight out, so I would be trading my 24/7 pro .40 for it.
  8. Good luck finding someone who will trade.
  9. Actually, I am quite edumacated in the differences and often got yelled at by my C.O. but, alas A.) I ignore people who get bent out of shape about the difference. B.) My grandfather called them clips (WWII veteran, stationed out of Tuskegee) till he died, who undoubtedly got it from his father (WWI veteran, when they actually used clips). He taught me how to shoot and it stuck with me. (I know bad habits and firearms make horrible bed fellows) C.) Also, might just be a yankee thing too
  10. Ok fella's I have a short range report with the Rock Island Armory 1911 .45. Lets start with the finish. Comes oily and once fired with a brass casing. Very simple look. As simple as a G.I. can look, save for the wood grips. The sights are simple 3-dot and nonadjustable. It is well balanced and finished. The grips aren't the best in the world, but they are like bacardi and coke (they get the job done). Firing the 1911 is as easy, fun and accurate as 98% of 1911's i have handled. Seating the clip with the action locked open leaves a little bit of play. Engaging the action and chambering a round locks it tight. Even though the sights are simple 3-dot sight, the sight picture is clear and ready for any situation you need if for (save for 50+ yard shots) There is a bit of creep in the trigger. right around a millimeter or two. The trigger weight and break is just right and crisp. Very pleasant indeed. I used some WWB FMJ and was able to get some decent groups. The following groups are at 10 and 15 yards. I want to buy the tactical version and trade out the slide and sell the mismatched gun eventually. Or, maybe just redo the trigger (but I suck as gun-smithing). I HIGHLY recommend this pistol. I would say that it is as accurate as my buddies kimber custom. However, the kimber has no trigger creep and a slightly more comfy dove tail. I went 200 rounds, no cleaning - no FTF's, stovepipes, whatsoever. It just waited on the next clip. Thanks guys.
  11. All the walmarts in nashville are sold out of .45 ammo. I know one or a group of you conspired to do this to me.... finding reasonably priced ammo, (wolf is good enough for target), at stores and online is near impossible. Any one know where I can get a box of 50 for less than $18 (in stock)?
  12. I have one Heavy? yes Accurate? Yes Problematic? No Fun to shoot? hell yes when the zombie apocalypse arrives, i am ready.
  13. I bought a commander RIA because 1. I can shoot better with one - a- maybe its the grip b- maybe its the trigger c- maybe its the even weight But I just do 2. I can conceal it really well. 3. 8 accurate .45's in a compact body - I can also conceal an extra clip when I need to 4. I got some really cool punisher grips 5. My Great Grandaddy, Grandaddy and Daddy carried one in WW1, WW2, and Vietnam and my best friend in Enduring Freedom.. Now, there has been a lot of talk about the inherent malfunctioning and spotty reliability of 1911's. I don't want to start a 1911 vs. thread. But, since I havent had a single issue with my 1911, why not buy a full size 1911 for HD or SD?

  15. I have the commander version and would like to either find a 9mm for $200 or picking this up for $150.00. Has anyone had any experience with 1911 .22 Conversion Kit #1911-22CONV and the commander version of the Rock Island?

  17. NEW Leinad MR 45/410 Pepper box Pistol Judge : Other at GunBroker.com What do you guys think?
  18. Thanks, didnt realize, appreciate it!
  19. Dont hesitate, great guy
  20. very potent and graceful firearm. Although the ballistics are similar to a .22 mag, the 5.7 can be used as a self/home defense weapon, not just defeating body armour. Go for it.
  21. Thanks inspectin1! No, I don't own an airbrush, but I am not opposed to getting one. I didn't want to go all out on this as the 1911 i bought wasn't quite in the budget... Good thing my wife is a horrible shot.
  22. C-more keeps a zero my shotgun.
  23. I owned an SKS with a 16 inch barrel that accepted AK mags. It was great. It had the reliability of an AK with the accuracy of an SKS. I loved it, however, I upgraded to an HK-91.... .308 ammo is way to darn expensive.
  24. I currently have a RI midsize that I want to convert to a two tone. Are there any spray on gun paints that you guys recommend? Looking for ease of use and simplicity. I want to make it a gun-metal gray.
