I would think the kick would depend on how much gas made it down the barrel. Would be real dependent on muzzle velocity. I just dropped a .243 (necked down .308) into my .270 rifle. It snaps right in, and I'm sure would chamber just fine. The cartridge is obviously way too short looking at it.

Sounds like it vented out the back of the cartridge. Good thing the bullet made it thru the barrel.

That's the whole issue. 1 well placed .45 may not stop them, especially if you're a little off center. It's most likely a shoulder wound from the 870 will stop them, or at least slow them down enough to get off a second round. Like I said, I'm much more likely to have a pistol within reach. But, if you're gonna wind up having to put multiple holes in them anyway, you might as well do it in one shot if you have the option. I don't keep mine chambered either. Since the slide release is easier to reach than the safety, I figure it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

We don't have "rights" on somebody else's property. That's been covered in more threads here than I can count. Sure, the sign was wrong, even though it was very clear they didn't want guns there. Sure, the security guard should have asked to to leave, or at least make the gun leave. Anytime somebody makes this kinda challenge, it always turns out the same way. FWIW, there will most likely be a proper sign posted soon.
