  1. Thanks for all the quick replies.  It sounds like I'm just over anxious.
  2. I checked on my "lifetime membership" ordered using the phone number in the Guntalk link -  http://www.guntalk.com/site.php?pageID=15&newsID=491  I actually ordered two, one for me and one for my son.  The charges posted to my account yesterday so I checked NRA web site, nothing nothing had changed there yet.  I checked again a few minutes ago and I'm now listed as an "Regular Annual" member . . . prepaid through February 28, 2033 !!??  At my age 20 years is probably a "lifetime" but it's not what was advertised.   Anyone else had a similar experience?
  3. Hello neighbor.  Welcome to TGO!
  4. +1 for GT Distributors.  I ordered and they delivered a firearm after Sandy Hook.  Back ordered about a week (the week when everything went crazy) and no increase on their advertised pricing.
  5. Welcome neighbor. Be glad to show where the CMA range is located or you can follow the signs to the WMA headquarters. From AC take Hwy 49 toward Dickson, left turn onto Petway Road at Greenbriar (there's a volunteer fire dept immediately on your left after you turn). Another left turn at the store on the left/fire tower on the right. There's two roads there; the paved one beside the store is not it. The WMA road is a few yards past it, slightly hidden in the trees. The range is on the left before you reach the headquarters building. It's probably a couple of miles after you're on WMA property There's no attendant/range master so you'll need to get your $5 daily ticket before you get there (any place that sells hunting liscenses). I've never been checked but I'm sure they will sometime. It's a primitive set-up take everything you want with you.
  6. "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen is an interesting read on this subject. EMP is real; the novel is fiction but will provide you a lot to think about.
  7. There was a lot of interest in this at the time, thought I'd post the outcome of the trial. Manslaughter trial ends in no contest plea 12:56 PM, Jun 26, 2012 | Written by Tim Adkins THE ASHLAND CITY TIMES A Cheatham County man charged in the June 2011 shooting death of a man in the Owen Place Shopping Center in Ashland City pled no contest last week to voluntary manslaughter. Ryan Neal Dickens, 35, of Ashland City was given a three-year sentence as part of the plea, said assistant district attorney Bob Wilson. Circuit Court Judge Larry Wallace will decide on Oct. 16 how Dickens will serve his sentence, Wilson added. Dickens entered the no contest plea during his June 20 trial. Wilson said the prosecution had called nine witnesses to the stand and four more were scheduled to appear before the court when Dickens took the plea. Dickens was originally charged with voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. The latter charge was dismissed, Wilson said. Dickens faced the charges for his role in the June 20, 2011, shooting death of Shannon Scott Paul, 40, of Ashland City. Authorities have said that Paul and Dickens were traveling on Highway 12 when they pulled their trucks into the parking lot of Owen Place Shopping Center in Ashland City. Dickens had an appointment at Star Physical Therapy, a business in the shopping center. Authorities said Paul pulled up next to Dickens, and the two men started arguing. Dickens then allegedly punched Paul. Paul, who had a valid gun permit, shot Dickens in the jaw and leg, authorities said. Dickens took the gun away from Paul, who then made his way into Don Pancho Mexican Restaurant. Dickens followed Paul into the restaurant, and the two men went into the dining area and bar before heading back outside in front of the restaurant. Dickens shot Paul twice, and Paul died at the scene. Wilson said it was never determined what led the two men to pull into the shopping center parking lot.
  8. Been there and done that. Got the t-shirt from rehab but refuse to wear it! OhShoot has it described pretty well. One of the best suggestions that I was given came from a friend. She said to get an electric lift chair for sleeping. I spent most nights in that chair for about 5-6 weeks. The electric version has infinite adjustments rather that the 2 or 3 in a mechanical chair. Plus the lift arm is on right side of standard chairs. Also, you'll be surprised how much it helps with standing up for the first few weeks. They are available for rent from medical supply houses. Other than that, the amount you will recovery is strongly affected by therapy and how much effort you put into it. The surgeon described my tear as "huge". Today i can reach behind my head and put my finger tips betwen my shoulder blades, put the back of my hand over my spine at the back of my waist, etc and my strength is 90%+ of what I had before I tore my cuff. You should be officially "finished" with therapy in about 3 months but, if you keep working at it, you will continue to see improvement. It probably took at least a year for me to get where I am today.
  9. I attended the Appleseed shoot that was held in March in Smyrna and recommend it highly. The instructors were excellent and the range is very nice. It''s fully covered with a concrete shooting line, etc.. Once you're at the range you will not leave it during the day. Take what you need for snacks and lunch, a lot of water is good. Safety and range procedures are very strict but professional. That's a very good thing! You will be on a military facility so access is controlled and all firearms are checked when you enter. It's no big deal - you just show they are not loaded. The main thing - keep your mind open and listen to the instructors. If you think you already "know everything" about shooting you'll probably miss some important information. They teach marksmanship, not target shooting. If you listen and apply what you're told you will leave there a better shooter. BTW - The instructors worked well with young shooters. We had two; one, a 16 year, old qualified as a marksman before the weekend was over. Beat me and the other "old" guys!
  10. +1 on BJ's in Lebanon. I have their 5'x10' TLC (they built in-shop) and it's a very solid unit. Tows great empty or full at any (legal?) speed.
  11. Did a FFL transfer with Capital View today. Excellent experience! $20.93 out the door and I enjoyed some good conversation while the paperwork cleared.
  12. Ordered on Thursday night (late). My purchase, in sealed factory packaging, was at the recieving FFL bofore 10 AM the next Thursday. Fifth business day.
  13. From Dickson, go to White Bluff and take Hwy 250 (called Petway Road , at least in Cheatham County) to Griffintown Road. There's a fire tower on the left and the small market I mentioned on the right. Turn right on Griffintown Road to Headquarters Road (on the WMA). The range is on the left before you reach the headquarters area. If the attached link works, follow down the roads and you can see the range in the photo: Yahoo! Maps, Driving Directions, and Traffic "CHEATHAM WMA Randy Cromer (615/792-4510) From Ashland City, take Hwy 49 toward Charlotte. Cross the river and continue four miles to Hwy. 250. Turn left onto Hwy 250 and go four miles to the WMA entrance, on your left. The check station is three miles from the entrance and maps are outside the check station. The firing range is on the left before you get to the check station and is open noon until dark daily." You will need to buy a range ticket from TWRA agent. They are available in Ashland City at Walmart. I usually get mine from a small market on Hwy 49 before the turn onto Hwy 250. There's also a market near the entrance to the WMA that sells them. Don't expect any "luxury" at the range, no "facilities", no rangemaster, etc. It's just a place to shoot at 25, 50 & 100 yds. Without supervision there, I've heard stories about things that happen but I've never had any issues. Everyone seems pretty good about working together.
  14. Ever considered it might be a life-or-death issue, but not be a gun? Some people must keep medications immediately available or nearby so they can take them at a scheduled time. This means they have to go with you if you're out and about. When things heat up in the summer and the meds need to be kept cool, well, thermos bottles and ice packs don't fit into your pockets very well.
  15. Sigbear, the outdoor range is in the Cheatham Wildlife Management Area. Check their web site for information and directions: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - Firing Ranges. I'm planning to visit to sight-in some things sometime soon myself. You will need to buy a pass from a TWRA vendor before going to the range. There's no attendant on-site. I've never seen TWRA check passes but I'm always are prepared if they choose that day. The range is very "basic". If you expect more than a place to shoot don't go there. No range master, minimal firing line set-up, no "facilities" etc. Backstops at 25, 50 & 100 yards. No handgun range other than the 25 yard one. As you would expect, the situation can vary a lot depending on the crowd or lack of one. Things have always been OK when I was there. I've also heard some stories from that range that would cause me some concern but I guess that can happen anywhere. If I ever feel uncomfortable I'll just pack up and leave.

  18. My bad and my apologies to Chapter 203 Vietnam Veterans of America. I did not realize this is a moving memorial. There is a permanent memorial in Nashville.
  19. Middle Tennessee Sorry for the misspelling. Fat fingers on the keyboard! I'll suggest the Tennessee Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall located in Clarksville, TN.
  20. I'll suggest the Tennessee Vietman Veterans Memorial Wall located in Clarksville, TN, http://www.clarksvilleonline.com/tag/tennessee-vietnam-veterans-memorial-wall/ Clarksville is also the location of Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division. Many of our troops currently deploy and return there.
