  1.   I have most of the tools now and just ordered a die for pressing the flats. I had been using a brake and it does pretty good . I am going to be redoing my first build that I used screws on and doing rivet builds . They all work fine but kits are harder to find and now that I have learned from the previous builds I think I can build a better rifle.     I have several hom built tools that worked pretty good. I am hoping this die turns out some nice flats . There is some good information on the Weaponsguild forum where it is mostly about the home builder . Tons of info and pics . I hope to take some pics of my next build , A Polish Tantal I did in 5.56 but I am going back with a regular AK 74 flat this time. Shooting as a lefty the selector bugs my left hand . Seeing as it is just there to fill the hole and it is semi auto only , I am doing away with it.
  2. I built an AK that originally had a 14" barrel but went with a 16" so I could be able to still change the brake . How does the barrel come out of the mini 30 ? I think if it was cut and you had the mishap of it being in the wrong place at the wrong time it would be a SBR while the work was being done without the NFA stamp. I could picture them just hunting someone to make an example out of .   I am sure you probably thought of that already . Also cutting the barrel means recrowning .
  3. Mine was in right after they changed everything . I guess that was 96. Mine expires in Oct 2013 and it took 7 months last time for mine to come back . I bought several guns while I was waiting and thought it was never going to come back . I wonder how quick they are coming back now ?
  4. I saw a sign at Shooter Depot I liked . Green circle around the gun with a welcome and something like ,please keep them holstered unless needed. I know they are a gun store but I have seen gun stores with the no gun sign.   I try and only go where I can carry. Not always possible but when given the option I am going to places that support the right to carry. Good story ., thanks for sharing .
  5. I really like the mid sized 19,23,32 sized Glock. I have a 33 but use a 32 Mag and spacer  when I carry it. I also have a 32 C .I have sort of went Glock crazy and bought several . When thing calm down you can always get the full size mags for back up. I have been buying the 357 models because you can get the barrels and conversion barrels for other calibers that I reload .    I have been buying mine on Gun Broker. I just watch and bid until I get one priced at what I want to pay. I did bid a low bid ( I thought ) on a new 37 in 45 GAP and did win it. Oddball but priced right I have 475 in it , shipped and transfered . Never know I might like it.      Welcome to Glocks and glad you was able to find one . To me you have the best sized one they make.   Now the hard part , ammo !!! Hope you had some .   I have a 17 that hit me with brass at least a couple of times with each Magazine. I changed to the newest Glock ejector and have had no more problems . It was less than 10.00 on ebay . Factory Glock part and easy to install.
  6. I am always called a negative person ( my magazine is half empty not half full ) , but I always replied , just being realistic. When I was working I would go by Walmart 2 or 3 times a week before work and buy a box or 2 of whatever. I have seen it coming for a long time and my only problem is I bought a few handguns in new calibers for me .I finally bought a 40 S&W and a 357 Sig because the ammo for them stayed on the shelf longerthan 9mm and 45 ACP . But right now everything is hard to find .    I have a few boxes for each of my new pistols and plenty for everything else . Get prepaired and when it calms down and gets half way normal buy a box everytime you can. I reload but bullets and primers are hard to find right now. I was in Sportsman Warehouse the other day and they had just 1 one pound jug of powder on the shelf.    I like to keep 500 - 1000 rounds for everything I have that I shoot on a regular basis. Things I never shoot (  25 ACP or 32 ACP / pocket guns ) I still have a couple boxes for each . But right now I am saving the ammo and still have some on order from a couple of places. I found some at a feed store the other day . Price was higher than before but not all that bad for now .
  7.  I never thought about the Gen 3 and Gen 4 not interchanging. Not sure if it will work either . I will have to check it out before I buy another one. I think they are making spring adapters to use the older spring with the Gen 4 slide .    I bought a Lone Wolf extended and ported barrel for my 20 .Finished some reloads yesterday. To me the 10 mm is a great cartridge . I thought it was going to die off but it seems to be limping along and maybe even gaining a little popularity. I can remember years ago when you said 10 mm , people would say never heard of a 10 mm. At least now more people have heard of it.    Do you that reload shoot the reloads in the factory barrel? Do you load lead or jacketed ? I keep hearing that lead in the factory barrel was a no,no because of build up so I just bought a barrel .
  8. I have a rest and can shoot with it fine. I do like shooting without the rest sometimes and that is when I needed the reduction.   I do reload and have ordered some 75 grain bullets for lighter loads. I know bullet weight helps as well as powder charge.   I am right handed and have to shoot left handed . The right shoulder is not much better but I can't see out of my right eye enough to shoot with it.  Just call me lucky .   I am going to start with what will not be permanant , like the mercury recoil reducer. I am going to take it out of the stck today and see if there is a channel under the barrel .   Thanks for the replies
  9. I need to get as much recoil reduction as possible on a rifle. I have a bad shoulder and have sold most all my rifles that had any recoil to speak off . I do have a Remington Sendero in 25 06 and want to reuce the recoil as much as possible . I know that it doesn't have much recoil to most people but with my shoulder I can shoot it but would like less recoil.    I am starting with lighter weight bullets and looked at the recoil reducers that go in the stock . However I have found that the buttpad is glued on and not removable . I was told of the slim mercury one that goes in the forearm but have not checked to see that there is room.    I am looking into having a muzzle brake installed . I have had a pistol ported before but they claim the brake is better for reduction of the recoil.    Any other suggestions ? Pro's and Con's ? Suggested vendor to have the work done ?
  10.  I have built several . Screw builds are what I did at first . I never thought they looked bad and used button head machine screws. I did break a few taps . Some of the trunnions are pretty hard.    I finally bought all the rivet tools for the press and I am going back and redoing all my early builds with rivets. It seemed each build came out a little better .    It is easier if you have a barrel that is with the original front trunnion . It should be properly headspaced but I would still check it. If you have a receiver that is 100% it takes no time to build . Much quicker than doing the 80% and bending welding and heat treating.   Do you have a press ?
  11. I have traded for a 700 Sendero in 25-06 . I have a very bad shoulder and want to install a recoil reducer in the stock . I have looked and see no holes where the butt pad was installed. I even looked with a magnifying glass .    Does the original attach with screws ? This is the one wirh the synthetic kevlar reinforced stock . Would I be better off getting another stock from Boyd's and doing it with the recoil reducer?    Thanks
  12. The best way I have found to see what something is bringing , is to find one with no reserve selling on one of the auction sites. Don't look at the crazy priced ones . Find some with bids and watch them until they end. The only thing for sure is ,  what it is worth and what you can get out of it are often very different. And that can be a good thing or a bad thing.
  13. Colostomy bag  , should get the subject changed pretty quick
  14. I have a G 30 so If I buy a gen 4 and don't like it ,  I can always use the G 30 frame. I just really like the Gen 3 .To me , it is best to find one in a store and hold it first. I had been buying mine on Gun Broker but wanted to feel it first . I actually found mine 50.00 cheaper than local and no tax. This was in November . I hate to knock the local stores out of a sale but I am on a fixed income and need to save all I can.    I have heard it said that the Glock frame tames the 10 mm and absorbs some of the felt recoil . I know it feels better than shooting a Smith 1086. If needed you can always get a 40 S&W conversion barrel and practice with the cheaper ammo. From what I understand the conversion barrel is all that is needed to shoot 40. Uses same mag and spring .
  15.   I traded my Gen 2  G 20 knowing I was going to replace it as soon as I could. I bought a Gen 3 in less than 2 months .I had planned on a SF but I tried one in my hand and prefered the regular frame. I always felt the 20 was a little big but the SF just didn't feel right to me .  I really like the 10 mm and want to buy an extended ported barrel for mine so I can shoot reloads .     I have bought several Glocks latley but not a Gen 4 yet. I kept reading about the ejector problems and just stayed with the Gen 3. Keep us posted on how it does . Maybe I will get a 29 in a Gen 4 next. Keep the 10 mm alive , it is a great cartridge .
  16. Well that solves that. I had been bidding on some guns they had on Gun Broker , just hadn't found the deal maker yet. Thanks
  17. Is that Michelle watching him in the background ?
  18. Not  GT . But I have been told that GT was on the line . Also been told that the back was in Georgia and the front was in TN amd you could buy from the state you needed depending on what counter it was billed at . I have a friend going to go next week and buy a pistol so I will know for sure then.    It took me a while to remember the name but Classic Pawn was the one I bought at. At that time they could sell long guns to TN residents in the Georgia store  . They opened a store in TN but I was at the Georgia store with a buddy and they had 2 pistols we wanted and they had an employee drive them to the TN store so we could buy them .
  19. Years ago there was a store in Georgia that also had a store in Chattanooga . At that , time if you bought a pistol from them, an empoyee would drive it to there TN store and you could follow him , do the paperwork and pick it up . That had to be at least 15 years ago .
  20. Two more Post Offices and half a dozen people later , I was able to ship 2 of them .
  21. Sorry , but  it was Illinois Goveners .
  22. I just saw a headline that 4 of Illinois  last 7 Goveners have went to prison.
  23. Thanks for the link . I don't think it is that the guy at The Post office is being a jerk in fact he has always been helpful in the past . He did have to look up on the computer what had to be done and printed of some info for me.  I think they don't deal with it enough to know what they can and can't do. On top of not knowing they are all scared to make a mistake with all that has been going on and the media screaming about " gun show loopholes " ans how easy it is for criminals to just buy guns.    I have always tried to do what I thought was the right thing to do . One time when registering a fiberglass streetrod I did it the proper , legal way and it bit me in the butt , BIGTIME . I ended up with a 2002 "homebuilt " That needed to go through emmisions before I could get tags. Originally they had given me an Antique tag and a 1928 but then called for the title and redid it as a 2002. If I had just done like everyone else and sent to New York for a title It wouldn't have turned out like it did. This car had a Big block Chevy , 6-71 Blower and 2 four barrels and no sign of an OBD2 plug for the emmission testing.  After several months of phone calls  and trips to the tag office , I sold it to someone in Georgia. From what I have been told , they have changed now so that they now title it as what it looks like . That doesn't help me now .    I say that just to point out how screwed up everything ends up when the Government gets involved. There is no common sense with them . They sceam about the guns but want to make it as difficult as possible to ship one , to those dealers that can legally posses them for resale . In my opinion ( my opinion doesn't mean anything ) all they need to do is copy the senders driver license , just for the record of who sent it ,and have the info tied in from ATF  so that the Post Office can acess this page .   https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/   Supply the numbers need to check and see that it is going to a current FFL and thats all. Shouldn't matter if it is a pistol , rifle , or a shotgun . I can't see any reason why a pistol is illeagal for an individual to ship to a dealer. Just another stupid law to add to the many others .
  24. It is no wonder people want to do private sales at a gun show and forum ads . Then they demonize it and call it " the gun show loophole " .  There is no loophole it is a private sale . I am currently looking at what else I plan on selling and thinking I may go a different route . My postmaster had printed out the section with the info , so I guess I will try and send some to there new FFL home tomorrow .    I am not sure I would do this again.
  25. This is what I mean. If you go read from the UPS or USPS you get one thing and the counter help tells you another . Pistols MUST go from FFL to FFL by USPS that I know. Others that will ship ( UPS and I think Fed Ex ) must be Overnight  Priority . Only for repair is what I was also told at UPS . It is cheaper to pay the FFL than Overnight it.   I am trying to ship rifles and only to FFL's . I have a FFL going to handle the pistols and looks like one rifle because the buyers FFL refuses to send me a copy. He sends me to an ATF website where you can confirm he has a FFL but it says plain as day in 2 places that this can not be substituted for a signed copy.   Maybe tomorrow will be better .
