  1. Pretty happy with Taurus . Fed Ex just brought me the rifle back . Repaired with the broken part and one spring being replaced . Total time from me and back was 2 weeks and 1 day . It does look like it may be an updated part . The old one reminded me of what I call pot metal . It probably wasn't but that is what it looked like. The replacement looks like blued steel .
  2. Be sure and buy a normal size magazine when you get here . I don't call them hi cap .  You will feel better .  Welcome
  3. I have an SLR-95 that i bought new. I got stupid and broke , so I sold it but was able to buy it back many years later. One of the best rifles I have ever had. I installed the K var stock set and did away with the thumbhole stock.
  4. 40 seems to be the most common for the Kaboom . I read where it had to do with the support being cut away so the bigger 40 could get the cartridge up the ramp and into the chamber on the 9mm sized guns. Aftermarket barrels are supposed to help with that . So many possabilities as to what could have happened.
  5.  The rules at the Post Office don't make sense to me . Rifle's can be shipped from an individual to an FFL , as in a sale  or to a Manufacturer for repair. The rifle can be returned directly to me from the manufacturer after repair. But a Pistol MUST be sent from an FFL to an FFL if going Post Office. Pistols can be shipped UPS and maybe Fed Ex for repair but I think they make it go Overnight or second day air.     It was cheaper on me when I sold several pistols , to ship from my local FFL than to go UPS overnight. If it must go to an FFL I don't understand why the Post Office will not ship a pistol. I know it is in the rules and regulations but if it goes to an FFL it is his resposibility to be sure the buyer is able to legally purchase it or pick it up . I should just have to verify it is going to a current FFL dealer.
  6. That's the good thing here , Rifles can go regular Post Office. I have it all packed up and shipping it in the morning.
  7. I talked to Taurus and have it packed up to send back. Looks like a 6-8 week turn around time right now. I had hoped I could just send the bolt , but I do have to send the whole rifle back. I am able to send it broken down in the 2 parts so that made finding a box much easier.  Looks like there warranty is for the life of the gun and doesn't matter if you bought it new or used. I have never done a repair with any gun manufacturer so I guess I get to find out how well the warranty at Taurus is . Thanks
  8. I bought a nice little 22 LR pump Taurus model 62 carbine and it broke after I got it home. What I would call the locking lug broke off. It still shoots but the slide will go back with it ready to fire . I have found one for a Winchester that it is copied after but not sure if it will fit. Has anyone tried the Winchester parts in a Taurus ?    I will try and contact Taurus in the morning but not sure how that will go with it being out of production and me not the original owner . I plan on also contacting Rossi as one bought the other one out on riffles and they might have parts that will fit  it .    Any other suggestions ? Numrich doesn't list it for the Taurus , out of stock on the Rossi but available for the Winchester.
  9. I am in the middle of redoing my early builds . Originally I did them as screw builds and now have the tools to do rivet builds and bend nicer flats . Each one I did got a little better so now that kits are out of sight , I am doing the first ones over.    There is some pride in making one from a kit . It is amazing as to how many variations there are and how many parts will and will not mix. I test fired my first rebuild yesterday , A Polish Tantal in 5.56 and on an AK 74 flat .    Looks good . Did you buy a 100% flat or do an 80% ?
  10. Glad it worked. I used some Back to Black for automotive trim on a Ruger synthetic stock and it helped it a bunch.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I have looked at the 3 Brownell bits ( I had bought for a black powder pistol I had ) and they do say USA on them. They seem to be of good quality. I am not sure who is making them for Brownell's but I did order a set with 24 bits . However it is on back order.    I guess I should have said that I like bits better than whole screwdrivers. I have a Snap On ratchet handle that I have had for years and love it. Hopefully it will not take that long for it to get back in stock.
  12. I bought a set of Winchester at Wal Mart that are in my opinion junk. If it is small it bends the blade . The bigger ones are OK at best. Way too soft .    I have 3 straight bits that I bought from Brownells that seem to be quality made. I want to get a set of bits and see all kind of different brands but do not want the cheap China made junk like in the Winchester set.   Do I just need to spend the extra for the Brownell set ?   What others are good quality ?   Are the " Proffesional Grade " really better, or just more junk ?   I tinker and just bought a Marlin 336 that I had to take apart. I was lucky in that the Brownell bits worked . I don't want to spend a ton but I don't want to waste money on junk either.    Thanks
  13.  I don't like shooting just any reloads and normally just shoot my own . There is normally more to it than the fact that it was a reload. I figure if I make a mistake , I have no one to blame but me. Could have been a double charge or several other things. Quality control is probably at fault , but that is just a guess.    I hear the big one to look out for is the support on the 40 S&W Glocks( smile ) . I did buy a Lone Wolf barrel for my G 20 because I wanted the extended , ported barrel . I also bought a conversion barrel for my 30 so I can shoot 10 mm in it so I have the 10 mm covered. I plan on buying some other conversion barrels when the reloading supplies are back on the shelf.
  14.  I have to agrre that the mid sized Glock is what I like best overall. A 19 is the 9mm version and probably the best for a new shooter. But if it were me , I would buy the 23 in a 40 and buy the 9 mm conversion barrel as mentioned above . The reason being you can convert the 40 or even the 357 ( G 32 ) to a 9 mm with a barrel and a magazine but you can't go from a 9mm to a 40 without another slide. When you buy the 40 and a 9mm coversion barrel you have basicaly 2 guns in one and double your ammo options.    I have a 32 and plan on buying the 9mm conversion barrel and a 40 barrel for it. in all I have 10 Glocks and cover one of the others ( G 29 ) with a conversion barrel for my 30 . They are great guns but if the choise was one and just one , I would go with a G 19 .
  15. This is going to go in my H&R Handi rifle first to see how well it works and then maybe put one in a Marlin 336. I bought the cheap slip on limbsaver today for starters.
  16. I am looking to get a recoil reducer to go in the stock of a rifle and I am seeing the Dead Mule Mechanical and the Mercury type . Price is about the same .   Anybody tried either before ?   Does one work better than the other ?   Going in a Handi rifle so the hole is already there .
  17. I looked at a Savage with the accutrigger today in stainless  . I started to get it but decided to wait a little longer. Seems like more are in stock now .
  18.  I have decided to buy a 22 magnum rifle and give up on larger caliber rifles. I have a few I am keeping but most of them are above my recoil limit now. My shoulder is not going to get any better so I am looking at what is out there in the 22 Magnum .   I have to shoot left handed due to an eye problem . I would prefer something other than a bolt action but price is always a factor. I shot a Marlin this weekend and it done great , not sure of the model number .    With the current market they ( 22 magnum rifles ) seem to be priced higher than I would have thought. Is it just that I have never priced them before or are they inflated as well ? I realize everything is inflated to some degree right now.     Any brand or model that  I need to stay away from ? Any that are better that are better than the others in the same price range ? I am open to all actions .I had an Ithaca lever action in 22 magnum about 30 years ago and it had extraction problems .    Thanks for any advice .
  19. I have bought sveral Lone Wolf barrels on e bay . In stock and here in a few days . I alway keep my factory barrels and use them for carry. I would depend on a factory barrel for self defense.  Factory Glock is hard to beat .
  20. Thanks for the info. I have decided to probably sell it . I am very recoil sensative with my shoulder and yes even the 25 06 causes pain. I figure if I do anything to it it will make it worth less .
  21. I bought a Lone Wolf for my 10 mm but haven't shot with it yet . I also bought a Storm lake Conversion barrel for My G 30 to go from 45 ACP to 10 mm that should be here this week . I am planning on getting several more conversion barrels for my 40 and 357 models so I can shoot 9mm reloads . Seems Lone Wolf has a good selection and priced a little less than most others .    I would hold onto the barrel unless you never plan on selling the gun. They pop up on ebay all the time if you want a price .I also go back to the original barrel for carry. But that is just my thoughts.
  22. Any tips ? Looks gray in spots . Anyone use Back to Black for automotive trim ? I am cleaning a Ruger rifle for someone and the stock looks pretty bad.
