  1. I really hate to see that "let's get the rulers out and unzip our britches" mentality. As well, I hate seeing the mentality of some LEO's that they have to prove something or that it's ok to abuse their position. If an LEO is using excessive force to effect an arrest, disarm you, or whatever, fighting back would probably be the stupidest thing you could do. Yes, he'll probably have "lots of backup" and you'll just end up going to jail after you get medically cleared by the hospital staff. If you want to show you're the bigger person and actually see something done about a cop who has overstepped his bounds, a challenge isn't the route to go. Even if you do pull out a couple extra inches on the scene, how do you possibly think you'll get any positive results if the officer has black eyes and a broken nose? You think his chief will listen to your complaint? You think the prosecutor will care what you have to say? What about a jury in a civil suit? Handling a situation like an adult (even if the other person doesn't) is so simple a caveman could do it. Sorry, couldn't resist...
  2. As a LEO assigned to a traffic division, I make quite a few stops. If I had to guess a number, I probably stop about 8 to 10 HCP holders a month. So far, in 6+ years of doing this job, I've disarmed one permit holder in the course of a traffic stop - and that was because he kept fidgeting around and making me nervous. Luckily, he kept his act together, we both maintained a professional attitude, and everything went without a hitch. If an LEO decides he or she wants to disarm you during an encounter, it'd be wise not to resist. Regardless of your testicular fortitude, it will not end well for you. Not to mention the possibility of having the state take the view that you pose a material likelihood of risk of harm to the public since you can't even follow a simple lawful* command. Not saying that the Dept of Safety would see it that way, but who knows, right?? As far as informing goes, I always appreciate it. And 99.99% of the time, I ask where the weapon is, ask you not to reach toward that area, and that's the end of the issue. I've had a few instances where I've seen a weapon and had no idea whether there was an HCP involved. And yes, it results in my gun out and in an "offensive pose". I don't know you from Adam. If you have a valid HCP, we're good. If you don't, we have an issue. I've never put anybody's face in the gravel over it (so far), but I've been responsible for some folks needing to change their undies. I'm doing whatever I have to do to make sure I go home and hug my wife and 3 year old at the end of my shift. It's nothing personal. You don't have to inform me of carrying, but if I see it and haven't been informed, I'm gonna find out if you have a permit, and at this point, it won't be nearly as cordial for a minute or two. You can think the criminals for putting you through that. If there weren't hundreds of LEO's who have been shot in the past during traffic stops, maybe we wouldn't react that way to a "surprise" weapon.
  3. They still have some. I'm kinda surprised.
  4. So, I was looking at my C&R today and noticed that it says I must notify the FFLC at least 30 days prior to moving should I decide to get a new crib. WTH?? What if I sell my house and buy a new one within a couple of weeks? Am I looking at possible "discipline"? How many people know the address they are moving to over 30 days prior to moving there? There may be a good answer to this in the regs somewhere, but I'm too tired to go look it up now.
  5. Those are sweet looking!!!
  6. Welcome!

  9. Interesting. Never heard of doing that. I assume it points out more of your muscle use / control issues versus flinching. I wouldn't expect most folks to flinch with an unloaded gun.
  10. A little over a year ago, my wife and I were heading down to New Orleans for a little vacation. She was driving as we headed south through MS. At one point, we found ourselves in the left lane and uncomfortably (to me) close to the rear end of a tractor trailer ahead of us. I was busy 'splainin to my wife why you don't want to follow a truck real close (the whole retread thing). As usual, she wanted to be a little argumentative, ignoring my agrument about the dozens of tire chunks lying along the roadside anywhere trucks travel. She decided to back off a good bit just to shut me up. As soon as she gave it enough space, a "thug wagon" with 20" rims hopped in between us and the truck. The "thug wagon" was riding the truck about as close as we had been moments before. No more than 30 seconds later, I see what looked like a puff of smoke come from one of the wheels. I hollered "S&*^"! as a retread came off the truck and smashed the windshield of the "thug wagon". It rolled over the roof and smacked the grille of my wife's SUV before passing underneath. My wife and I took a second to regain our composure and as I started to open my mouth, my wife glanced over and said "If you say 'I told you so', I'm pulling over and you're walking". I'll give the wannabe gangster credit for how he handled it. He held his composure and pulled off onto the shoulder. Maybe one of these days, my wife'll listen. At least she got to learn that lesson at someone else's expense.
  11. Thanks for posting the vid, TnRebel
  12. Send Jimmy an email. He's a really nice guy and I'm sure he'll get back with you really quickly. Another thing about the kholster is that the lifetime warranty applies even if you modify the holster. There's a pretty neat video on youtube. Search for "modify kholster" and you'll find a tutorial on how this guy does his "combat cut" for the holster. Makes it look much better than original.
  13. Well, considering you'll only have it on for half an hour (3:30 to 4:00)... Kidding aside, if you're trying to stay within a budget, I've heard good things about the KHolsters. I just placed an order since they're on sale. I used to always use a "thunderwear" holster for those times I had to tuck, but I figured I'd try out the kholster. I've also heard great things about the Crossbreed Supertuck and CompTac Minotaur, but haven't had the money yet to pick one of those up.
  14. Anybody else search for their own doctor (or any other doctors you know) and find them to have no ratings at all or just a couple? Yet this doctor has close to 400. Seems a little fishy to me...
  15. That was good. Thanks for sharing!
  16. I hate mowing.
  17. Yes it is.
  18. Veterans - Thank you!
  19. H*ll yeah. Show that bad boy off!
  20. I'm really surprised no one else has chimed in here. I'm only somewhat familiar with NFA items, but from what I understand, it'd likely be cheaper to obtain the lower first, submit the paperwork and $ and then, after receiving ATF approval, buy the upper and complete the build. That way you'd avoid any dealer transfer fees (which are usually much higher for NFA items). I definitely wouldn't suggest getting the upper first. You'll need the lower (serial number) for the paperwork and possessing the lower and upper could be viewed by the ATF as constructive possession of an NFA weapon. As far as quality, it all depends on what type of components you use, but I think you'll be hard pressed to overcome the quality of a Noveske. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of NFA items will throw in their @.02 soon. Good luck!
