  1.   Buy a 3d printer, use it to print the components to build a home grown CNC. ;)   http://www.makerbot.com/   http://www.engadget.com/2006/06/29/how-to-build-your-own-cnc-machine-part-1/     It's more involved than a simple DIY but it's way easier these days than a few years ago. :)   Once you have a CNC and 3d Printer at your disposal finding items to make is the easy part, the files are all over the internet, Makerbot tried to ban guns from it's object library, and overnight all the weapons files were suddenly available to more people than they ever had been. Thingiverse required at least registering with a valid email, now I've seen files for printed AR parts on usenet and private torrent trackers, not to mention sites like defcad. . .       Once the files are out on the net there's no chance at really stopping the distribution.
  2. Santa brought me a new firearm and some whisky. (to almost certainly be enjoyed separately)
  3. faster than listing it all here's my bag ready for a smaller shoot a few months back. Me in action at a local charity event for the Alzheimer's Association. Here are a few shots taken with the gear shown I've upgraded bodies since then, but the glass generally stays the same unless I'm going to a much bigger venue in which case I usually drag out the longer(and heavier) lenses. Erik
  4. I can't believe that many fans submit to such intense searches just to sit out in a field and listen to music. I also find it interesting that they ban SLR cameras from fans, but I guess I should just consider it job security.
  5. Good to know thanks for the correction fallguy. Would this make carry legal on say an outside deck of somewhere that served alcohol?
  6. Bad Idea. I'll be there, in a press area somewhere. Alcohol is sold for consumption on site of the concerts which makes that a no no might include the campgrounds as well since they are attached to the same event, aside from that if you havent been before it's always really, really crowded so your chances of not hitting a bystander if you do draw are slim to none. I will be, and personally recommend leaving the pistol locked up securely for the entirity of the show. Mine will be locked up for sure while I am at the event.
  7. From what I understand, the amending of an pre-existing gun law is legal, creating a new law is not. They are simply removing the exemption for the "army/navy pistol carried openly in the hand". The HCP is a defense to the law where it states "with the intent to go armed" which is the critical part of most of the local gun laws.
  8. I own one in 9mm, It's construction is fine, shoots acceptably accuritely, and is hard to beat for the price. I can say the trigger leaves something to be desired, but it's not too hard to improve, and doesn't really effect performance. If your used to Glocks you would be happier buying one of those b/c the trigger difference in night and day. My plans are to eventually make mine a backup gun to leave in the emergency kit if i keep it.
  9. I'll look forward to it then, SW is smaller then TGO at the moment but it's growing at in incredible rate. Let me know how the upgrade goes so I know what we have to look forward to.
  10. One of the forums I administrate is holding off a little longer till some of the bugs and kinks are worked out.(another is using SMF) Mainly b/c we are not in a hurry to be the first on the block to use any new vBullitin releases, we try to allow some other forums upgrade first and be the guinnea pigs.
  11. I'll be sure to ask for one of those from the in-laws next christmas.
  12. I did get a response from the state patrol on how to get my pistol home legally,(3 days later) it had to follow 1+2 above and be in a Not immediately accessible or broken down state. So if your traveling through IL, and run into highway bandits ect. plan on chucking pieces of your disassembled firearm at them! :/
  13. From what the Family that lives in Carbondale IL explained to me Chicago is much worse but here is my experiences/education about my new in-law's home state thus far.. . I couldn't buy ammo in Illinois last January when I couldn't find any here, because I didn't have a FOID card($10), application sounded easy enough, I went the local DMV to get a FOID card and was told I couldn't have one B/C I'm from out of state they said to show the teller at walmart my TN hunting license, cool no problem!, back to wal-mart show my current TN hunting license, no-go can't purchase ammo still b/c TN does not touch IL? Note, I am not hunting in IL only trying to pick up some rounds for the new rifle I got for Christmas(3 week prior) which is still back in TN.(wal-mart near my house had been sold out every day since I got the rifle ) They were kind enough to offer me a non-resident hunting license($56) but I had no interest since I didn't have the gun with me , and would only be there for another day, and only wanted to purchase ammo. Ended up picking up 5 boxes at a wal-mart 5 min. over the line into KY on the way back home. (whoo! that was easy, could have been from mars as long as I was 18yrs old!) BTW, I also can't carry in IL or have a firearm in my possesion apparently b/c to transport a firearm to (or from) a destination in IL legally it must be transported . . . 1.Unloaded- (Ok no problem) 2.Enclosed in a case. (whatever floats your boat, officer) 3.By persons who have a valid FOID card. (WTF you apparently won't issue these stupid cards unless your a resident of IL. What is someone visiting family who lives here supposed to do if they happen get a new pistol as a gift while there!)
  14. on a varient 1(or2) If you cock it and flip the lever up (S) it's cocked and locked. If you cock it and the lever stays level (F) it's cocked and ready to fire(safety off) If you cock it and push the lever down(further away from S) it decocks lever will return to (F) naturally after decocking. you may then place it (S) if you feel inclined to need it decocked and safe.
  15. the image your using is a p2000 hence the different configuration the OP specified a USP series which use the action lever for safety and decock.
  16. another free/super cheap source of lead is used wheel weights(from cars), I brought home several hundered pounds over the years when I was a mechanic and put them in the back shed in sealed 5 gallon buckets when I run low I can usually find a tire shop that's happy to get rid of them.
  17. to carry cocked and locked with out the decock function your looking for a varient 9(left side safety only lever) or a varient 10(right side safety only lever) Odd numbers are left side controls, Evens are right side controls. 1+2 are loaded, w/safety and decock on the in a double action/single action configuration 3+4 are double/single as before but have no safety, only decock. 5+6 are double action only with safety, no decock 7+8 are double action only with no control lever (no safety or decock) 9+10 are double/single action with safety only , no decock the LEM is a variation of Varients 7/8 action is the same but trigger is shorter to reset and has a reduced double action trigger pull. Erik
  18. I'll likely be there but my latest track build won't be complete by then, I was at the January event hosted by Tracks Unlimited, and I'll likely be at the BMWCCA trackday @ Barber at the end of May. Below are a few of my pics from the past events.
  19. Hi my name is Erik, I'm from Brentwood, currently living in south Nashville. I am an eagle scout, and was tought to shoot at a very young age(7) by my grandfather(state trooper) and my father(military school). I attempted to join the military once upon a time(marines) but washed out due to medical issues.(bum shoulder + pushups=FTL) I have many different guns but I've only bought one(inherited many). I recently decided to get some official training to become legal to carry after one of my guns was stolen from one of my parked vehicles. I went with CIS's HCP class in Smyrna and am turning in my paperwork this week.(excellent training BTW, Todd) I have been reloading for several years now since my best friend taught me how to use all the dies and stuff I found in my grandfathers shed(mancave). I generally shoot on a friends private range about 30 min. from where I live but am looking at a membership at on target or something like it so I can get more rounds downrange in the winter months. I have currently- 1 S&W .38 model 36 2" airweight jframe w/exposed hammer 1 S&W .38 model 37 2" airweight jframe w/shrouded hammer 1 S&W .357 4" Magnum (THP Limited 50yr ann.) 1 S&W .32(long) 4" rough shape was my grandmothers purse pistol. 1 H&R SS .38 revolver (classic boat gun) 1 CZ model 27 produced under NAZI occupation(stamped w/reichladers and such) 1 NAA .32 (I believe)derringer 1 S&W 9mm sigma recently bought from a friend who needed money during a rough patch has become my go-to auto due to the loss of the HK. (stolen )1 HK USP .45 was my fathers range gun till he finally found a 1911 that he preferred better 1 Remington 870 12 GA. 1 M16 A1 1 Colt AR-15 early production 2 Remington 700s one in .308 SPS one in 30-06 ADL 1 Winchester lever action 30-06 1 Marlin .22 bolt action. 1 Ruger mini 14 ranch There are many firearms in the family that may be swapped into/out of the collection at random due to different family members wanting to shoot other family members guns. If you ever see me with a Glock in my hand my brother-in-law has likely recently swiped the AR. (he seems to want to make me a glock/XD believer but they just aren't my thing) Other than guns, I'm into Computers(Apple) and European Cars(BMW/Porsche). I am currently a database manager for Vanderbilt Kidney Transplant. Erik
