  1. There is a post on ###.com advertising a class/build for $750. He says he is in Lebanon,TN. Don't know anything about him or the class, but sounds like a fair price for everything. Considering you can gather the parts yourself and put them together for around $600 +/- however you still need the tools $100 +/-.

    Lc9 or Db9?

I too have been looking at the DB9 and just the other day ran across a Beretta Nano. I believe that is my next gun purchase. It is just slightly larger than the DB9 and smaller than the LC9. Seams to be well built and is getting some good reviews, however I would like to shoot one for myself.
  3. Yea, only saying it should be used in a 5.56 chamber not a .223. You can shoot .223 in a 5.56, however you should not shoot a 5.56 in a .223 chambered weapon. The Wylde chamber should be able to handle both safely.
  4. Unfortunately the Air Force is very lacking in its firearms training after basic training with the M-16. He has been in for two years now and has not touched a firearm of any kind except for personally owned.
  5. Thanks, that is what I thought I remembered, it has been 6-7 years since I took the class. He should be good.
  6. My son, who is in the Air Force in FL, took his CC class just before Christmas and could not get in to the drivers testing station before he had to leave to go back to base. He will be back the first week of March. How long is his class certificate good for? I seem to remember when I took my class several years ago they told me 6mo. but heard someone say 90 days. Anyone know for sure?
  7. Lots of fun and very cold. As usual met a lot of great folks.
  8. I put the Ghost Rocket in my Glock 23. Makes a huge difference in the trigger pull. Shorter reset, overtravel stop, smoother. Transformed my opinion of Glocks.
  9. I use pipe cleaners I get from Walgreens. I've had Q-tips leave cotton lint and whole heads behind. The pipe cleaners seem to eliminate that.
  10. A 1:10 twist will be better suited to 55gr or less. It would not hurt to try some 62gr bullets, they may do o.k. but the lighter bullets will most likely be your best bet.
  11. I use 6.0gr of Unique with a 200gr LSWC and it meters and fills the case well. I also like Winchester 231. It too fills the case well and meters even better than Unique.
  12. Yea, I certainly don't discount their service in the Air Force just because of my choice to be a grunt. He is in a safe job, stationed in Fort Walton Beach and I could not imagine the terror and sleepless nights I would have if he had followed in footsteps. My dad tells me my mom barely slept the whole time we were in the desert and we were barely shot at. My good friend lost his brother in Afghanistan this past summer, before that my friend lost his health and well being in Iraq. When I see pictures like the original posters, I am so proud of our guys still willing to sign-up and volunteer for this duty. It makes me miss not being able to be there with them, even though my time has passed. The friendships I forged during my time in, are still strong today.....
  13. Good, any idea of ammo requirements? 60-100 rounds?
  14. Is there an IDPA match on the 14th? It is on the schedule but I haven't seen any of the "principles" post anything about it here as usual. Just wanted to make sure before I drive up and am there by myself.
  15. I think if you try another powder you will find a solution. Tightgroup is not a very forgiving powder, very small variance in the charge. You can go from min. charge 2.5 to max. at 2.8. Were I you I'd try either Unique, WSF or HS-6(all versatile powders in other calibers) . Lyman has a good bit of data for this bullet. All the powders listed still have a relatively small variance from min.-max.
  16. Thank you for the pictures and thank you for your service to the nation. I was in Desert Storm as a grunt Marine. Our experience was nothing compared to the war you guys have been dealt. My son is in the Air Force and has a non combat job(couldn't talk him into joining the Corps . If you are home welcome home,if you are still there God Bless and stay safe! Semper Fi !!
  17. What powder are you using? At 3.2 gr. of Unique (starting charge,3.8 max) according to Lyman, pressure only shows 25,600 which is fairly low, that is at 1.058 OAL. I am surprised you saw signs of high pressure. You would not likely see signs of leading after only 5 rounds unless the lead was way soft. As far as the smoke, that is a by product of cast lead, along with a little more grime in your gun. Cast from wheel weights are all I shoot in my 9mm,38/357 & 45.
  18. That mold should drop at 147 gr, so your lead alloy is a bit heavy. You should be able to use starting data for that bullet weight. My Lyman manual lists 3.2gr of Unique as a starting load. I would start there and look for any pressure signs. If you are going to start casting, I would suggest getting a couple of Lyman loading manuals. They have the best data for cast bullets.
  19. Not sure why you don't want to shoot the +P. If there was ever a gun that would have no issue with it, you have it in your Sig. The Ranger T 127gr +p has an impressive record. The 147's not so much. The amount of felt recoil between the two wouled be minimal if any at all. The 127's are approaching the ballistics of the .357sig/magnum. As far as the 147's wear on your barrel, it would be no more than any other jacketed bullet. Each would shoot to different point of impact, but that's about it.
  20. Yea, I crushed about 3 204 cases before I realized something was wrong. I thought I was miss-aligning the tool head before I pulled the crushed case and seen 204 Ruger. Somehow I picked them up at the range that someone had left. They look enough like .223 it's hard to tell without looking close.
  21. Just what others said, that's no Loaded. It is a either a Mil-Spec or maybe even a GI. Someone added a couple of hundred dollars worth aftermarket parts to it and is trying to pass it off as such.
  22. The triggers on the Rock Island's are about the same as most out of the box budget 1911's heavy and gritty. You can get a good pre prepped set of hammer sear disconector that will drop right in a pistol assuming your pins are in the proper place from Cylinder&Slide1911 Hammer Sets Among a few others. I'v used a couple of the pre prepped kits and turned out some great trigger pulls. If you want to install a new trigger shoe, that is easy also. They just need to be shortened a bit on top and bottom with a file. All pretty easy stuff.
  23. I loaded on a Lee turret press for 15 years. It is a great press to learn on and is quite a bit faster than a single stage press. I have upgraded recently to a Dillon 550 and there is a learning curve to a progressive press, however the production rate is much higher.
  24. I've had two Kimber's both full size 5" guns and they performed flawlessly. However, the Ultra 3" barrel seems to have the most dissatisfied owners. The sub compact 1911 as a whole are harder to keep running than their full size counterparts. Everything has to be in top shape for them to run reliable as to where 5" guns are quite a bit more forgiving. I personally would not carry any brand of 3" 1911. I do carry a 5" Les Baer daily. But for $750, you would likely be able to get out of it pretty easliy if you don't like it.
  25. There was a dealer at the Hendersonville gun show a few weeks ago that had several for $485. Still a little high but not unreasonable.
