Makes a bit of sense. As we know there is a 90 day legal limit on the issue of a new permit...no such time limit on renewals. Also you are still legal to carry as long as you have proof you submitted your renewal before your expiration date. Still can't see why that can't take a bit more of the $115/$50 and hire more people and update equipment.

Any cities/towns NOT doing the park ban?
Fallguy replied to cybernorris's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Good clarification! ...and the TN law did cover other Federal Lands besides parks. So now there is no TN state law against carry in a National forest, preserve, historic park, military park, trail, or recreation area in addition to National parks. So carry is only determined by Federal law in those places. -
Use this thread to post any local parks where the local government has voted and either prohibited carry or the prohibition failed. Please include Name of Park: Address: (If known or at least general location) City or County: (Name of city or county where park is located, not whether it is a city or county park) Results of vote: (Carry to be prohibited, Carry not to be prohibited) Entity taking vote: (*** City council, *** County commissioners) Also please make an entry into our CCW Prohibited Locations - TGO Database ***NOTE*** No off-topic discussion will be allowed. This thread is strictly for tracking results of local park carry votes. If you wish to discuss an entry please create a new thread and you can post the link to the thread.

Any cities/towns NOT doing the park ban?
Fallguy replied to cybernorris's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well actually.... The national park and state park carrry were effective immediately, (June 12) not July 1. Also on local park carry, the part that allows local goverments to pass resolutions against carrry and to post was effective on June 12 so they could have it all done by Sept 1 if they wanted. Therefore never having legal carry in that park. But as was said, carry in local parks that don't opt out is legal on Sept 1. -
Any cities/towns NOT doing the park ban?
Fallguy replied to cybernorris's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I believe that is correct. A city could wait a year, see how things go and vote to ban them later. Or could ban them now and at a later date remove the ban. The only problem with this would be the expense of posting signs, then removing them. But just another reason to hold off and see if there is a problem for some reason first.... -
Interesting Facebook Group dealing with HB0962
Fallguy replied to BrandonTN's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Some of y'all should really get away from the cities. In dry counties where liquor is illegal.....there are plenty of "taverns" "beer joints" that serve beer all day an night...but no such thing as a meal, kitchen, 75+ seats or the like around. I bet you dollars to donuts, when the media keeps saying "Guns in Bars" these are the type places that people who live in there areas are thinking carry will be allowed in now. Although we all know that's not true. -

Doubt very many will official announce they are allowing weapons. I imagine the vast majority will just let Sept 1 come without mentioning it. But may know more about Jackson after Tuesday. That is when they are set to take up their ordnance. I have heard back from 3 of the 9 council members all saying they are against it. One said there was a simmilar motion a couple of years ago that failed 2-7 and he thought the vote would be close to the same this time. -
Corps of Engineers property?
Fallguy replied to busted knuckles's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
AFAIK per federal law you can not carry of Corp of Engineers property. http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/usa.pdf -
As 56FordGuy said, only if they post. The only places off-limits by TN law are.... Inside any place that serves alcohol for onsite consumption. (39-17-1305) Restaurants legal on 7/14/09 (Public Chapter 339) depending on the lawsuit. Any room where a judicial proceeding is taking place. (39-17-1306) Schools. (39-17-1309 and 39-17-1310) Exception for picking up or dropping off students. Local Parks and recreational property. (39-17-1311) Legal on 9/1/09 unless the local government opts out and post. (Public Chapter 428) Any place with a properly posted sign per 39-17-1359 http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-law-faq/13408-reference-material-some-basic-questions.html

I don't think it makes the whole grocery store off-limits, only the actual postal area.
-
I believe that is correct.

Just to be clear...there is no TN law against carry in Federal Buildings. It is Federal Law that prevents carry in Federal Buildings. There are some states that have such laws (to be redundant, I guess) but TN is not one of them. I have always though a Federal Building is simply any building owned or leased by the Federal Government.

A good thing from the Restaurant carry lawsuit?
Fallguy replied to Fallguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Maybe I am not clear...I am not talking about just restaurants and bars. Why are so hung up on bars and restaurants? I am talking about grocery stores, hardware stores, banks or any other private property open to the public. Yes, some property owners may come up with another argument. But I do think there are some that post just because of the perceived liability on their part of allowing armed individuals on their property. If the liability was clearly removed, I think some property owners would not post. -
A good thing from the Restaurant carry lawsuit?
Fallguy replied to Fallguy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
No, I don't think it will stop the lawsuit....and that's not what I am really talking about with all of this. I just think this situation could help change the law on liability, which would be a good thing overall I believe. ....and why are you against a law that would relieve a property owner (not just restaurants) of liability because you shot at a bad guy and maybe hit an innocent bystander? Is it really the property owner's fault the innocent got hit just because the allowed you to carry in there? Granted I don't think they property owner is liable as it is now, but that doesn't stop them from being in the lawsuit...and as it stands now, they have no specific protection under any statute. However as I said, the flip side is, if it is clear the property owner has no liability for your actions and he still chooses to post, then yes, I think he should be liable if something happens to you and you may have otherwise been able to prevent it had he not caused you to disarm. -
Looks like a great trip! I hope the trucker that tried to pass was cited for something.
