  1. That's right.... Other than if you belong to certain professin (LEO, Military, etc...) there are 5 times listed it is ok to carry in a park. T.C.A. 39-17-1311((1)(G)(i)-(v) (i) A person hunting during the lawful hunting season on lands owned by any municipality, county, state or instrumentality thereof and designated as open to hunting by law or by the appropriate official; (ii) A person possessing unloaded hunting weapons while transversing the grounds of any public recreational building or property for the purpose of gaining access to public or private lands open to hunting with the intent to hunt on the public or private lands unless the public recreational building or property is posted prohibiting entry; (iii) A person possessing guns or knives when conducting or attending “gun and knife shows†when the program has been approved by the administrator of the recreational building or property; (iv) A person entering the property for the sole purpose of delivering or picking up passengers and who does not remove any weapon from the vehicle or utilize it in any manner; (v) A person who possesses or carries a firearm for the purpose of sport or target shooting and sport or target shooting is permitted in the park or recreational area.
  2. I think that has actually been mentioned by some........and probably would have a half decent chance of working.
  3. Just saw this on my "This Day in History" section of my webpage. April 1 1621 - The Plymouth, Massachusetts colonists created the first treaty with Native Americans. If they'd only know.....I think they would have been picking us (Europeans) off as we got off the boat.
  4. Well there was a knock on the door about 11:00pm last night. Now normally this would be reason enough for mild concern, but living in the middle of town (as small as it is) it is not unheard of. My daughter and her boyfriend are staying with my mother who lives next door. There was a storm on the way and we have had some problems with drainage in her basement. He had been over earlier in the talking about it and gathering items, so I just assumed it was him and he needed something else. I open the door and NOPE!!…it’s the neighborhood crook, thief, “can I get a rideâ€, etc… guy. Thankfully I was still up and dressed, due to the storms coming so still had my weapon on my side. I recovered pretty quick and turned my strong side away from him, moved right hand back in the area of my holster and kept my left hand on the door to push it closed if need be. No I admit in the past I have been suckered in once or twice in giving him a ride, but that was mainly just to get him out of the neighborhood, but not at 11 at night. He got about two syllables out before I told him I wasn’t taking him anywhere. That it was 11 at night he’s lucky he didn’t get shot. I talked with the officer on duty a little after that and he told me how the guy had just got out of jail earlier last night. That he had already had a few calls on him and had contacted family members to get him for the night. As luck would have it, his sister lives about two doors down from me. So I let him know he was back on the loose…lol Anyway….sort of long winded to just say, Don’t ever assume you know who it is, what they want etc….
  5. Interesting take SomeGuy. Never really thought of it that way. ....and sorry about that Travis.
  6. AFAIK though you can still carry one in the proper container to check it in your luggage, even with a properly posted sign. Just not on your person strolling around the airport.
  7. Oh I agree it looks like what they are going to is follow the state law for where the National Park is, which leaves TN out of luck for now. But it will be allowed in some states as it is already allowed in some other states' parks now. So how hard is for those rangers, and why can't their procedures be adapted for TN rangers?
  8. Only if you can't discuss a topic with people that have an different opinion than you and also choose to state theirs.
  9. Can you tell me where the places are that anyone "needs" to carry? How will it make it any more difficult for law enforcement rangers than any other type of law enforcement? What about the fact that carry is more than likely soon to be allowed in National parks? If this bill was to pass my firearm would be on my person, not in my car. In certain circumstances it is already legal to have it in your car, seems it would be safer in the prisoner scenario to have it on me than in the car.
  10. Not tomorrow (04/01) but Wednesday (04/02) LOL...of course 04/02 will probably be "tomorrow" by the time anyone reads this.
  11. Oops.....I make mistakes too. Traffic laws are covered under Title 55, not 57. 57 has to do with Intoxication Liquors. Not sure how I could confuse those two.
  12. That's because you just glance at my post...
  13. It should say Stoned or something.... Still not sure why a funeral director needs a certificate to show someone is "Def (deaf)"
  14. LOL.....me too. Just left a comment on his page to that effect.
  15. No, it must be unloaded and in checked luggage. Only Federal LEO's and Local LEO's that show a need (i.e. prisoner transport) can fly armed. http://www.tsa.gov/lawenforcement/programs/traveling_with_guns.shtm
  16. Yep...heard of smooth incidents...and not so smooth. Sounds like you've done well in checking the airlines website...below is from the TSA website. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1666.shtm
  17. Maxxguard, a security guard company in Jackson that teaches a HCP class also sell the badges and uses the same "recognizable as a good guy" claim. In fact the pic I posted was sent to me by a guy who took their class and bought the badge. He has since stopped wearing it.
  18. LMAO..... But now I'm picturing you instead of looking in the mirror...
  19. LOL...why is it so funny? I'm an agreeable type of guy. ...and kudos to you sir. For your service to the country and for taking your job seriously enough to keep up with changes that affect you and those you interact with. That is true about how people are raised. ...and can find a cross-section of people in any group.
  20. Hello and Welcome
  21. Welcome
  22. Me too! Yep see below! She told you wrong (big suprise). See above. No, unless they have a permit issued under 39-17-1351
  23. Oh....I still sort of want one as a novelty at times...
  24. I do understand what you say Razorback and I used to CC 99% of the time, but I find myself trying to OC more and more...really for the exact reason above. Not cause confrontation but to raise awareness. LEO's and the public need to know and accept there are legally armed citizens out there and simply having a weapon visible does not make you a BG....or concealed for that matter. IMO simply carrying a weapon that is visible shouldn't be a reason for a LEO to intervene, (especially in this case since OC w/ out a permit is legal in OH) however I know in TN that you do have to have a permit to carry period, so if the LEO wants to see your permit, that is not an unreasonable request. However I don't think that it would require being held at gun point and/or searched. On officers knowing the law....I admit there are lots of laws out there and it is hard to know them all, but I would think LEO's would primarily only need to deal with two sections...Title 39 on Criminal offenses and Title 55 on Traffic offenses. I'm really not bashing LEO's at all...love my brother the LEO, although we don't always agree on these type discussions...lol, but isn't the main job of a LEO to enforce the laws of the jurisdiction they serve? How can you do that if you aren't familiar with them? But if you aren't familiar with them, then fine, but don't try to enforce what "you think" the law is.
