I think that is a tad harsh. The general, although not 100%, consensus is that is legal, whether it is advisable or not. I have tried not to judge others based on what I would or wouldn't do or whether I like it or not. How many judge us for going armed in public and think it is crazy? Since it is a legal activity I feel that is my decision to make, just as if someone wants to wear a HCP badge...more power to them.

Maybe we need to start a beer drinking, watching the grass grow and wrangling the snakes club?

That's why the bad guys go to all the places where the cops hang out...so they can shoot them first and then rob the place. .....or do I have it wrong and they tend to avoid places with people that are armed?

Lord have mercy......I think those of you that want someone arrested for simply wearing a HCP badge are taking it a bit too far. As a HCP holder I have also been licensed through the state and the badges I've seen make no mention of any law enforcement agency or occupation. Does the law about impersonation, the other professions you mentioned or anywhere else specifically mention the wearing of badge? These badges aren't new....they have been out since the HCP program started in TN. I think if someone was going to be arrested for wearing one it would have happened by now. Also I think these business that sell them to HCP Safety Class students would be taking a huge risk if the badge was illegal. I know of at least one school that sells them and tell the students to wear them. So why most agree they are a bad idea.....to try and stretch it to the point of making it illegal is just going a bit too far.... IMO Also I bet the Halloween guy had a whole LEO uniform, not just a badge.

True... Also people look at other people and "assume" many things, but that doesn't make the assumption true or a violation of the law.

LOL....molonlabetn, I thought that was a bloody limb the one on the left had for a second.

Maybe someone, but not I. But that is because as I've said I think it should be a right to carry not a privileage...

I don't have a badge, nor would I wear one, but.... The couple of people I've talked to that wore them, did not wear them when they carried concealed. They had the badge on their belt next to their openly carried weapon. I don't think simply wearing that badge would cause you to go to jail for impersonating an officer. Many other professions (Firefighter, EMT/Paramedic, Security Guard) wear a badge, so I think it would take more than just that.

Yours isn't bad either...but I think you mixed two.... Mine "Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away" and... "It only takes 3 seconds to dial 9-1-1, it could take them the rest of your life to get there"

The "No Soliciting" sign is a good one, I have one. Then right below it I have. Another sign I have made, but not yet put up, may help as well... It's bad that you can't keep someone from disturbing you in the first place, but I would think once someone was told not to come back, they could be charged sign or no sign...at least I know private property business owners can do that.

Very good point Dixie!!! It is not supposed to be a "Defensive Tactics", "Self-Defense", "Qualifying with a Handgun", "Handgun Techniques" or another type of class that some instructors and/or students want it to be. If you want more training beyond the state mandated "Safety Class" then be all means get it, but for those that don't they shouldn't have it rolled into the required class and charged extra.

Posting at library in Jackson because of HCP
Fallguy replied to mac12's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The Jackson Sun has a poll on their opinion page about whether you should be able to carry in the library. http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=OPINION Roughly 2-1 in favor right now. -
No plaque necessary.....just send me a HCP badge..

Yea!!!! I finally made it to 1000 post. Of course this 1019 before I noticed. I know...been running my mouth a lot lately.

Traitor is somewhat accurate because he aparently at one time was pro- and is now anit-. If he had always been anti- he'd just be stupid...lol Do I think training is a good idea? Yes. Should be people get it? Yes. Should it be required by the state before they allow you the privilege of something that should be a right? NO!

I have to agree with the Rabbi in the sense that Yes, if you were to somehow remove every handgun and/or all personal firearms from the world, of course gun violence would disappear, but unless you also make knives, rocks, sticks etc... disappear someone who wants to kill someone will find a way. I think the permit process in TN is too hard...for the simple fact one should have need a permit from the state to arm themselves, even in public. Almost sounds like someone that had some sort of bad incident and now is as much anti- as he was pro- before hand. Knew the same thing that happened to a motorcycle rider once. Loved them, worked on them, had a web-site with TONS of technical info and modifications. Got drunk, had a wreck...and it was the evil motorcycles fault. Changed his web-site to nothing but anti-motorcycle stuff. But each are entitled to their opinion....no matter how ignorant.

It's not that I disagree with the police chief and as a LEO stated in another thread somewhere he would find a "legitimate" reason to stop a vehicle....i.e. Tail light out/broken, rolled a stop sign, failure to use signal and so on. So in general a LEO can usually find a "legal" reason to stop a car and then conduct whatever investigation he wants (and the person stopped agrees too) after that. I was just saying stopping any car, any where at any time, but because it is a certain car and/or in a certain place and/or at a certain time with no other reason shouldn't be done. Which is apparently what the officer admitted to in this case.

Here is the current law on a school term 49-6-3004 There has to be at least 200 days of school. 180 classroom days, 10 days of paid vacation (200 day term) or 11 paid days ( if 221 day term) or 12 paid days (if 240 day term), 5 days of in-service, 1 day for a Parent-Teacher conference and 4 days at the discretion of the local Board of Ed. It would seem the real reason that most school systems have to start so soon is because of all the breaks, administrative days, etc... through out the year. Cut a few of them and you could start a week or two later at least. Here are a a couple of other "laws" I found that I wonder if they are followed. I will be asking my kids when they get home this afternoon. 49-6-1001 Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. 49-6-1004 Period of silence or prayer.
