I like to call it a freedom tax. They can't take away your freedom so they'll tax the hell out of it. That's what i figure will happen with or without any kind of ban. I guess the pistol is the best choice. I can always buy a box of ammo here and there and there as I can afford it and find it. Like Garufa said...

I'm not trying to be a whiny baby by the way. It just seems like there's always a run on guns and ammo and I'm always broke when it happens. then when i finally can I get there and they just sold the last one. OK...Maybe I'm a little bit whiny..

I have an AR but no pistol. And i know they will be coming for the guns. But I can definitely see an exorbitant ammo tax to try and make it too expensive as well. Guns aren't much good without ammo... But it's kinda hard to conceal an AR....

I don't know whether to :poop: or go blind. I finally have the money to EITHER stock up on 223 ammo OR buy a pistol. I would normally opt to add to buy the gun but with all that's happening who knows which one is is gonna sky rocket in price first.
Ah, IC. There's a reoccurring debate regarding whether one "builds" or "assembles" an AR. To me, once one get into drill presses and reamers or tap and die, that's "building", and beyond me. - OS
It's not by choice. I'd rather "assemble." I have tried to find someone to do it but apparently nobody around here does it so I am gonna try it myself.

I bought the barrel and FSB separate. Both new. Rookie mistake. If I had known I would have bought the barrel with the FSB installed.
But you mention reamer, so the the FSB and barrel must somehow be already drilled out to accept it? - OS
I will have to drill the holes myself. I should already have a bit that will work.

That's a bada$$ rifle my friend.
Let me get this straight...you have a standard A2 FSB and it came loose? There are two big pins that hold those things on, so well they are very difficult to remove.
Mine is only held on by a set screw between the ears that hold the sling swivel. I haven't been able to find anybody to pin it on. I think I'm going to order a taper reamer and do it myself.

Thanks OhShoot. Based on what you said I may leave it alone. This was the first time I had ever shot an AR and .22 mag was about what I expected. I can tell you I was way more concerned when it quit cycling than I was about where the brass was landing or the recoil. I wanted to cry until I fund it was just a loose FSB.

I finally got to shoot the AR I built for the first time today. It was overall good. Louder than I thought it would be. I shot at a Pizza box in my backyard from about 15 feet. It was about 2.5" to 3" low (expected). Windage was good. But who really knows. I was more worried about function than accuracy. First 15-20 rounds went perfect. Then trouble. It quit cycling. I had to hand cycle it to finish the mag off. There was enough daylifgt so I decided to try another mag. I loaded it up and gave the rifle a good look over. that's when I noticed my hand guards were loose. Then I noticed the handguard cap flopping around. Then I saw the FSB was loose. Put it back in place and tightened it back up. Second mag functioned perfect. I'm going to pin the FSB. I guess I'll have to do it myself since no smith in the midstate does it. Brass landed at 4:30. They all damn near hit eachother they landed so close. (does that even matter?) Recoil was a little stouter than I had expected. Not excessive but I had never shot an AR before today and didn't really know what to expect. I'm running a standard carbine buffer. Does anyone think I would benefit from a heavy ("H") buffer? Maybe soften the recoil and slow it down and bring the brass a little farther forward? I am pretty happy with the way it performed. I am tickled todeath it is finally done.

Thanks.

Could it be that those 2013 dates are supposed to be the remainder of 2012?

Thanks for the replies... I hope it does well. I picked up some ammo today but there wasn't enough daylight left. It runs alright by hand. As for the Roggio you heard right. I guess I'm lucky (sort of). The threads for the receiver extension weren't cut deep enough so I had to run 'em with a tap. But that was it. Luckily my father-in-law is a machinist and made me a tap so it didn't cost me anything.
My family and my wife's family are all huggers. I got in the habit a long time ago of "hugging low". This forces in most cases the other person to "hug high".

Haha I just am not a big hugger anyways. It took me a while to show everyone that but I think they are catching on.
Maybe you should have offered the guy a happy hug.

I'm past it being nice. I would give a couple of warnings and if no change call the cops myself to tell them I'm being harassed and my daughter is scared. I'm finished with civility and putting my head down and letting things go.

Never had an AR before so I built one. Took forever and I didn't save a dime. But it's just how I want it! For now anyway. Hopefully I'll find out how it works this weekend. I bought the black mags before i decided to go with FDE. I kinda think they look better though. The NAACP was at early voting in Houston campaigning for Obama, handing out water to people in line and moving Obama voters to the front of the line.
I support the Fort Campbell Falcons, but all high school atheletes rate high in my book. It gives the kids something to do and a little hope for their futures! I hope everyone does well! Absolutely!. It's all about the kids. Sports is one of the best hobbies a kid could have. I think your Freshman team came to Dickson this year. Dave S

These games are really fun to watch. Good games Being in blount co I follow Alcoa , Maryville, Went to Doyle AKA "south doyle", born in Sevier co and follow all these teams All seem to have good teams this year Doyles out, lost friday
I see Maryville won and is up against Oak Ridge Friday. Sevier Co. won, too and has Dobyns Bennett next. We have Mt. Juliet next.

My son plays for Dickson Co. He is only a freshman so he will probably not be playing, but it's still fun. If you don't have anything else to do tonight go support your local HS football team if they are in the playoffs. I had forgotten how much fun it was to go to the games until he got there.

I don't think the martial law thing will ever work. Nor will he try it. But trying to overturn the election results...That's a different story.
