  1. It’s funny how I was thinking the other day about some folks I haven’t seen on in a while. I remember years back taking part in the Bowie pass around you did. Took me a while to find the thread. This was a lot of fun. I took a hiatus for a while as well. Glad you made it through this and are back on!
  2. Thanks for the offer! I THINK I’m going to be able to pull it off. I have gauges on the way and should only need to buy the proper wrench from lowes. Already have a torque wrench. I’m assuming my method of viseing the receiver should work fine given the amount of force it took to get the old barrel off. If for some reason it doesn’t, I may take you up on that. This project is quickly adding up but I should have a pretty sweet semi long range setup once done. Found a good deal on a nice scope, which leads to new rings, to new 20 MOA base.
  3. Well PVA just told me all I would need for the barrel nut is a crescent wrench. Good excuse to buy a set of crows feet. That’s something I will reuse.
  4. Nice! As long as I like it and it shoots well, it’s just money. I think the RAR actions are great honestly albeit not as polished as some but a good entry into the custom build world. Hopefully not a gateway drug though.
  5. So I got the factory barrel off just using a standard vice and padding. No damage to the receiver but I wouldn’t want to look at the barrel of used again lol. I didn’t plan to use it again anyways but would have been nice to save it. Oh well live and learn. From this experience, I don’t think I’ll need anything other than a proper barrel nut wrench and the gauges. I’ll take the advice and buy them. Wish I could give a picture but I found a Patriot Valley 26” M24 contour barrel in stainless for $349 which seemed like a great deal. I’m not sure yet if their nuts are similar to a savage nut or just use wrench flats. By the time I buy the barrel and a Timney and including the magpul stock I already have I’ll have way too much in a RAR but I should have a sweet shooter.
  6. I’m hoping my Akubra comes in this week. It sat at the airport in Australia for a while.
  7. I ran across a great deal on a 6.5 Creedmor barrel from Patriot Valley Arms and will be changing my Ruger American over from .308. I am going to need to buy at minimum, a barrel nut wrench. As far as action vices and headspace gauges, should I pony up and buy them or can I get by using brass? I doubt I do a barrel swap again or anytime soon so I’d like to save that money if I can. I’ll probably just use a pipe wrench to remove the factory barrel nut since it’s smooth and won’t be reusing it. Any tips or advice on this job?
  8. Long shot I know but wondering if anyone has a spare AAC 51T QD muzzle brake? I can’t fathom how or why they just stop making these for an item like a suppressor. There are some still out there but I don’t want to deal with high prices from shady vendors.
  9. I actually just finished watching this. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now want another bike. Not electric though.
  10. Only if we let them! Let’s lead the charge!!
  11. I really like the look of the Stetson Stratoliner Ultralight. Good shape but not made of dress felt. Has a more casual look to me.
  12. Yep. I never knew they were in MO. I was surprised that it only cost $16 to ship my hat from Australia.
  13. Ive wanted to feel a higher grade of Beaver felt but never tried one on because I knew I wouldn’t spend for it. The Akubra I ordered is made from rabbit felt so I’m anxious to see how it feels.
  14. I’ve struggled for a while to get up the courage to wear one. My wife said she liked the way it looked so really in my book that’s all that matters lol. I think there are a certain few styles that lend themselves to daily wear.
  15. Looks like it’s just the two of us.
  16. That’s the hat I almost pulled the trigger on before finding the Akubra. Very nice!
  17. Curious if any of you folks regularly wear felt hats. This year I’ve been wearing a wool felt hat my wife bought me and decided to upgrade to a nicer fur felt hat. I’m not a fan of western hats but did want something more substantial feeling that’s the crushable wool. I looked and looked at Stetsons but couldn’t find anything that fit the bill without looking to new age. I ended up ordering an Akubra Cattleman from Australia and hope to have it in a week or two. Show off your hats if you have them!
  18. This year I’ll be using Hornady 180gr XTP’s. I have to do some research on using cast or hard cast on smaller game but will probably venture into hand loads next year assuming I can find components. I’ll also probably upgrade the barrel as well.
  19. Well here is the final product. I’m very happen with how it turned out and feel much more confident with the red dot. I’ll admit that while I didn’t care for the 507K on the smaller guns, I’m a fan of the slightly larger dots. This Diamond D Denali chest holster is very comfortable as well. I wore it around the woods for about and hour and barely noticed it. I was planning to add the new Timney Glock trigger but was told by Timney that it’s still in the prototype phase for the large frame Glocks. I neglected to take a picture of the job Battlewerx did but it was about as good as you could expect. The fit was PERFECT with no movement in any direction. They also had it milled and sent back within one day of receipt (no coating applied).
  20. These were pulled off a 19x and only a few months old. I ordered a set of Dawson Precision sights for another project and decided to use them on the 19x. Would also trade them for a 33 rd Glock 9mm factory mag. $40 FTF in the Memphis area. $50 shipped.
