  1.   LMAO! Never considered that about the asphalt but you are oh-so right!   I was a reserve deputy in southern Mississippi (while I was in the Navy) - I learned then to turn on inside lights. Generally I place my hands flat on the dash, palms-up. I WANT the LEO to be happy and feel good, safe and comphy!
  2. A good friend of mine's son is a Metro Nashville police officer. His dad asked him about what he wanted to know if someone with a carry permit were stopped. This are the officer's statements:   1.  He and most other officers he knows appreciate being told you have a gun carry permit and if you are carrying or not.  Definitely tell them if you are carrying!! 2.  He is checking to see if it's a state law that you must tell the police if you have a carry permit. (It is my understanding that Tennessee does not have the requirement, as it is in some other states. It does show that even cops do not know all of the rules - even guys that are a few years out of training). 3.  Until the police run your license they have no idea if you have a carry permit or not, so the advanced warning is a nice courtesy to the officer. 4.  Always have your carry permit with you if you are carrying. Legally you can be arrested for carrying without your permit on you.  This is rarely enforced, but it is the law. 5.  The police have the right to take your weapon away from you during a stop if they feel it in the best interest of their safety to take it.  They are required to return it back to you after the stop is completed.   The police take guns as a serious threat so don't play around if you are in a situation of being stopped while carrying your weapon. When I took my carry class it was taught by a retired highway patrolman - his suggestion was to keep your hands very firmly on the steering wheel and tell the officer that you have a carry permit (and do NOT say, I have a gun!)
  3. So I found magnum small pistol primers for use in 9mm. I was told I should reduce the amount of powder I use by 10%. Anyone know anything about this and is it the right thing to do or should I not use them?
  4. A Hornady phone rep told me that it takes 300 pounds of force to seat a primer. I have put one in side-ways and had one hook and degenerate when seating in a press and neither one popped (PTL!). Bottom line is A) you need to expect things to happen B ) work hard to keep bad things from happening and C) WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!     Late thought: if bad things do happen, keep an extra pair of underwear handy (but tell people it is to wipe up the mess - OF THE PRIMERS)!
  5. Changed the full synthetic oil in my car on Wednesday... it went to the great-big recycle drum. I can spring for new (clean) oil, not stuff that smells like gasoline.
  6. I do not know the value of either gun. I have shot an FNP .45 and thought it was an excellent weapon and very accurate. As hib said - it is a good gun... question is: which do YOU like better.
  7. The only gun I have ever owned with a decocker was a Ruger P95 - when you decock, it just drops the hammer, like you'd pulled the trigger... THAT scared the %$(@ outta me (at least with the Sigs it is nice and gentle)! I tested it with a live round in it first thing.
  8. All I know is that I am bringing a thermos of coffee, tomorrow (and gloves LOL)!
  9. Same thing with the Hornady Lock n Load AP.       Look man, the basic's haven't changed. The biggest thing would be the consumable supplies and maybe the equipment brands but your still doing the same basic thing.
  10. I use crushed corn-cob with a handful of crushed walnut (lizard litter) or two. Usually tumble at least an hour.
  11. I got 2 of them from HKParts.net (same price). They have just come in but I haven't been able to load any 9 to test it with. I dont like the idea of a drum, I am more of a stright 32 round mag as there is less to go wrong with it but I figured, what the heck, might not be able to get them soon.
  12. I was involved in a traffic accident in Mount Juliet... it was my first contact with law enforcement since I had gotten an HCP and I said to the 2 guys, by the way, I have a carry permit but I am not carrying - I swear, just like it had been practiced both of them them looked at me and said, "Why not?!?" I said it wasn't allowed at work and the sargent said, that's a silly rule. LOL!
  13. Couple of things... A) If you are active duty (thank you, by the way) and change your home of record to TN you won't have to pay any state income tax (as we dont have any). When I was in the Navy my HOR was TX, because they dont have income tax for active duty people. It is something you have to do through the pay people (do you still have LESs? It shows your HOR on it.). I would and did...   B ) Most states make you surrender another state's ID or DL... dont know about carry permit.
  14. When I shot a coworker's FNP I loved it! It seemed to come-up to the sight-point very easily and quickly for me. I haven't ever been able to find one around (used or I would have it). I cant speak to the value to cost but face it, this is not the best time to buy a weapon, so it doesn't surprise me. FN is a very old, high quality company. Good luck!
  15. Excellent, wish I had a wife to shoot with! You are a lucky guy (make sure she knows that)!
  16. When I was in the Navy, we had optics that were outside at all times. We had to use ultra-pure nitrogen to pressurize them. As I recall being ultra-pure, it was much drier (thus lowering the dew-point) and had been filtered better for particulate matter. I agree that anything you can do, on the cheap is much more satisfying, and probably quicker, than sending it off.   Just wanted you to be aware.
  17. Don't think I would be tossing a finger at um but it sure is bad-ass!
  18. It damn sure is worth it!!!
  19. Concur!   So, I guess Washington was one of those states, as you said, had no "gun show loop-hole." Were yall able to do private sales (person to person) or did everything have to be transferred through an FFL holder?
  20.   I absolutely agree with that! You are correct most would be good, I was talking about mandatory carry. There used to be a guy on here that was a professor at MTSU that said he carried... I sure would want to if I were him!
  21. Honestly, this is why I said I am not in favor of every teacher that wants to be armed to be allowed to be. Some people just shouldn't.
  22. WOW! Talk about lucky... I know what you mean, every time my GF and I go out she has a margarita (or something) and I would love to have a drink too, but I dont. Means I will probably never need it (I hope!).   Glad you and the wife are safe!
  23. I used to carry @ sob using a Bianchi model 6 holster but my dog ate it (not a joke, I'm afraid), then I got a Crossbread Supertuck and it is MUCH better!
  24. Check with Brandon at Middle Tennessee Gunsmithing, He is a custom-work kinda guy! Look at the second pic (from the left) on his site: http://www.midtngunsmithing.com/ I believe he made that stock. He is up in Springfield. (615) 384-5591
