Go to the Civilian Marksmanship Program and buy the M1A1 Garand. Buy three Ammo cans of .30 cal.  Buy lots of clips, also.
 

I just put a scout scope on mine via a gunsmith who knows how to mount a rail just ahead of the chamber that ejects upward.

with the scope it will reach out 1,000 m. Big enough and powerful enough to drop any animal native to the western hemisphere.

I don’t ever take shots that far, but it’s fun to shoot at outside ranges with 500m to 1000m distances.

Plus, it’s a real piece of history. The US manufactured millions of them so no worries about its rarity as a collectors item.
