Hello (again) from NY-Long Island

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.  It has been a while since I last posted anything here.  I hope all is well with the citizens of Tennessee.

I am a gun owner.  As much as one can be in NY on Long Island.  And I am looking forward to retirement (6-7 years from now) in Tennessee.

Right now I am looking for recommendations on where to live so I can start my research and trips to TN to explore and investigate etc..

I am hoping to purchase some property (10+ acres) and build a house and have a little 100 yard gun range, enjoy some peace and quiet.  Maybe grow a nice size garden and play the occasional round of golf.

I have decided to start looking around the Knoxville area.  I don't necessarily want to live in Knox County but maybe in one of the counties surrounding it.  I understand that Knoxville has a very good hospital and that is a key factor as I (and my wife) age.

So I am looking to you like minded people of this forum for recommendations, advice, suggestions, fact and figures, etc. to help with my investigation.

PS I am also not looking to bring "change" to Tennessee.  I am looking forward to adapting to the way of life of a Tennessean.

Stay as far away from Memphis as possible. I’ve been here all my life and it blows. I use to spend a lot of time in your neck of the woods working for FedEx. Spent lots of time on fire island, Oak Beach and the Oak Beach Inn. Use to be a restaurant at Sunrise (27) and the Robert Moses called Frankie BZs in west Islip and Frankie’s Fireside grill in Amityville, I think.   Great sirloin steaks and ribs. Tuesdays and Thursdays were always fun at Nathan’s.

Anyway, Welcome Back.

Avoid the Democratic party controlled cities - Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga - all have crime rates that continue to soar with more and more tax money paid in entitlements and patronage while infrastructure suffers and homeless camps abound.

East Tennessee counties are your best bet with lower taxes, less crime, fewer housing projects and the resulting derelict urban jungles of squalor.

You will be welcomed as most Tennesseans enjoy having good people for neighbors.

Welcome back! I understand your concerns with aging. We really didn't plan it this way(ON A LOT of THINGS...lol) but we are within 5 miles of the majority of our Docs.

Firehall and EMS 2 miles away. We used the EMS services. So this location worked out well, just by accident.
