IMO one of the best threads is from professionalsoldiers.com called Be Prepared.

It lays out thoughts on topics of how to prepare yourself for disaster.

Yeah definitely a good site....I think the most pressing large investment I need is a good generator, but I dont really know which fuel source would be best.

IMO - it mainly depends on - what is your need for generator power and how/what your fuel storage situation is.

For short term a gas generator is fine. But if you're looking of a longer term solution, diesel or propane is better due to fuel storage. Gas will only be good for so long even with Sta-bil. If you get an anti-algae additive for diesel is can last a pretty long time.

If you're on a farm where you run diesel daily, a 500-1000 gal tank would be good since you're probably going to keep it circulating. If you've got a little acreage around, you might think of sinking an underground natural gas/propane tank. You could also run your stove, heater, water heater off this...

But my gas generator has served it's purpose.

Not sure about propane. That could be hard to find over an extended period of time. I'd think gasoline or diesel would be the better.

diesel would be good if you have a storage tank for it. could use the same for farm tractors and trucks also.
