I still like my 30.06 for "general" hunting in TN. I use my .308 for long range crowd control. LOL

.308 over a .30-06 for range????

I thought the .30-06 with a 150 grain BTHP had a better trajectory. (This said, my .30-06 is not extensive and I could be wrong.)

Favorite? Whatever shoots a deer. Remington 740 carbine in 30-06 w/ 2-7 Nikon for in close and fast. For open fields it's a mod 70 Winchester classic in 06 with 3-9 Nikon.

Wow! Love that 45-70. That's a sweet rifle!

I'm hoping to get in a little deer hunting this "gun" season. I have a couple of Marlin 30-30s with 3x9x40 8 point scopes, and a Savage Model 24V in 30-30/20 Ga. over under combo gun. I'm excited to see what I can do with the Model 24V. I'm debating as to whether I should put a scope on it or leave it with open iron sights...opinions? I realize the terrain makes a difference, but either should work here in Middle Tennessee. Anyone have any experience with a Savage Model 24V 30-30/20 ga. ( deer hunting) that could give me some tips on them? All sincere tips appreciated.

Why do they call it common sense, when it's so uncommon? TN Sen. Fred Thompson
