Long term gas storage?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone recommend a good way of storing gas at my house? I've looked at those plastic Blizt cans at the store, but they say that is not good for long term storage. I'm not looking to store a ton.. maybe 30-50 gallons or so.

Tips on suitable containers, additives, and storage locations or methods would be well appreciated. Thanks.

Metal cans are the best for long term. I use a product called " Sta-bil" It will keep gasoline from degrading for about 1-1/2 years. I would use the gas by then.

I keep my gas cans in a shed up off the ground on a shelf so condensation won't be an issue. The shed is vented also.

I've had good results by doing this.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

anyone have any good ideas of suitable tanks? stored in the garage OK or is outside necessary?

Absolutely DO NOT do this. One of my dad's friends almost completely destroyed his house with a couple 5 gallon gas jugs. Build an outside shed and might I recommend looking into some 55 gallon drums for storage.
