Mousegunner, read through your experience getting HCL.

VERY NICELY DONE!!

(May want to alter the ID to obscure your name and address.)

Straight forward, informative with very helpful graphics.

It's just a shame you didn't get to rub ink off your fingers though, ya missed out! :D

Have a wonderful day.

Wow!

If that doesn't sound familiar, I don't know what does. That was a great read and I wish I'd seen it 3 weeks ago.

My wife and I took the class from the same place (best deal in town that we could find) and even from the same guy. Mark Haskins was a great instructor. The wife and I have been discussing taking some additional lessons from him...his card is around here somewhere.

It looks like they're doing classes almost every weekend now and I think they do a 2 part class (Tuesday-Wednesday 4hrs) at least once a month. One thing I noticed on your page was that you took your magazines to the class loaded. I did the same thing and when we got there, Carl kinda read me the riot act for doing that. Something I learned before the class...and in it...loaded magazines are the same thing as loaded weapons and unless you've got that CCW...that's a bad thing. That's what they said anyway.

We got lucky and did all our paperwork at the DMV down on Cherokee Blvd. It's relatively new so not many people are using it. We were there an hour after they opened and didn't have to wait in line at all. And oddly enough, all the people there were in a great mood and were really happy to see us getting our permits...asked a lot of questions about what we liked to shoot and what he thought we'd carry, etc.

We did our fingerprinting at the UPS store out on Gunbarrel Rd...Gunbarrel...coincidental.

It was three weeks ago, last Tuesday, when we got everything turned in and fingerprinted. Checking the mailbox every day.

Again, great read. Glad you posted it.

  • 2 weeks later...

it took me about 6 weeks to get my permit. i got it in the mail this past January. there was a small snafu with the background check, and i had to do a little legwork at the courthouse. seems there was a date conflict with a minor incident in my past. the federal background check read july, but it was april. i obtained certified copies of the documents (free at the courthouse) and sent them next day to nashville, and i had my permit a week later.
