Daddy's first bolt action?

Hey All:

I rarely venture to the long gun side of the TGO tracks, but I have a question.

Looking for a good, solid bolt-action centerfire rifle. Something that is common, been around for a while, plans on staying around for a while longer. Something to mount a scope on and shoot some holes in paper at a moderate distance. I'm thinking a Model 700? What else should I look at?

I'd take a good hard look at the Tikka T3. It's a Sako action - trigger breaks like the proverbial glass rod. Shoots under 1moa before leaving factory, available in 5 or 6 calibers, and around $500-700 (wood or synthetic?) out of the box with scope rings included. For the money, it's a heckuva gun, IMO.

You really can't go wrong with either a Remmy 700 or a Savage 10. I have a Savage 10 Law Enforcement edition and I love it. Real tack driver.

+1

These are the best mass produced rifles. I have a remington sendero in 7mm rem mag. Also a tack driver. I think the Savage's are just as accurate and the adjustible trigger is really nice on them.

To get better, you have to look at a custom rifle imo. And that will set you back some serious cash.

Get on over to Walmart and pick you up a Rem700 for 300 bucks give or take $20. You can have a blast as is, or build it up into a $2000+ rifle. They have all sorts of flavors for you to choose there also, so for the price of a good used CZ, you could pick up 2 good 700's...1 short action, and one long. You definitely cant go wrong there.
