Yes you first have to pay for your background check and fingerprints down at record search. Then go to the Shelby County Sheriff off ice at 201 popla 5th floor I believe and have them do the sign off. Long process, be prepared to be there most of the day and go through a lot of metal detectors.

Where can I get my background check and fingerprints done?

You have to get a No Wants No Warrents at the building next door to 201 Poplar, it costs $19 if I remember. Then take that to the office on the 5th floor of 201 Poplar and give it to the secretary there, she will give it back with the signature in 10 or 15 minutes. The sheriff doesnt require the fingerprints, that is strictly for the BATFE. I got my fingerprints done when I paid for my can so I couldnt tell you where to have that done, just be sure they are on the correct form, BATFE will not accept most standard police fingerprint forms. It has to be on a fingerprint form FD-258 (Rev. 5-11-99) 339-567/80019 with the ORI box stamped WVAF0800

ATF-NFA Branch

Or you could go with a trust and bypass the fingerprints and CLEO signoff. My last transfer was om a trust and it was much easier.

You can get your prints done at the same place you get the wants/warrants check. It is the building on the east side called the jail annex. When I had it done a few years ago it was $15 for the first card and $5 for each additional card. I wouldn't go before 10:00, thats when folks tend to be getting printed for misdemeanor citations.

This is really what I would prefer to do but I cant find an attorney that will draw up an NFA trust and I dont really trust the quicken willmaker product.
