629 or Silencer

If you had the option to buy a S&W 629 .44 or a silencer for a glock to shoot in the back yard, which would you get? Shooting in the backyard is about practicality, but also has a number of hassles associated with tax stamps, new sights, barrels and such, and is really very expensive just to shoot backyard. The .44 mag is utterly impractical, because it is useless for HD, and because I'd rather hunt with a rifle or bow, but would be really fun to shoot at the range, and is a beautiful piece. I'd also be able to justify a .44 lever action down the road which I might be inclined to hunt with. Help TGO. Which should it be?

The .44 is far from impractical, you could use .44 specials for home defense, or carry it as a back-up while hunting, say for hogs or other dangerous game or if you ever got a wild hair and went hunting or fishing in Alaska, use for bear protection. A silencer is impractical what would you do with it, about the only thing I can think of is not hear yourself shoot, If that is what you want, sit in your living room and cycle your slide back and forth till you get board because that's about what you'll be doing w/a silencer, are you an assassin, a sniper, a hitman, if not I would get the 629. Plus you talk about "backyard" shooting, if it is illegal to discharge a firearm where you live, it is still illegal even if you can't hear it. We do not condone illegal activity here so get the 629 or a '94 tracker in .44mag

Sorry to the OP, but I have to hijack for a minute because answers like this piss me off. Its is apparent that you have no idea what you are talking about. I'm not an assassin, a sniper, or a hitman and I have suppressors. Alot of my friends have suppressors and I dont think they are assassins, snipers, or hitmen. Educate yourself before you start running your mouth.

Luckily, I live 300 yards beyond the city line, and have a big hill behind my house. Shooting is legal and safe; I just want to be respectful to the neighbors, so I forgo shooting.

Buy a bag of potatoes...Always works on tv.

A suppressor would be cool to have, but I'm biased toward the .44 mag. I just let one slip through my fingers not long ago. I'd be talking to the neighbors. They might want to join you shooting back there.

I noticed your tag says you're moving to Kentucky soon, it may be easier to move with the 629, I really don't know what is required to move with a silencer but it is a consideration.

I would probably go with the 629 just because I would like a .44.
