The ABC has determined the following part of the law:

if the serving of meals is the principal business conducted each day the restaurant is open

Means 50% of your sales must come from food, to be eligible for a state restaurant liquor license.

While there are hundred's of different types of liquor licenses... (Mostly for friends who couldn't meet the 50% rule)... There are only a few general kind of licenses, Bar is not one of them... For a for profit business all require the 50% food sales rule to qualify for the liquor license.

(27) (A) “Restaurant†means any public place kept, used, maintained, advertised and held out to the public as a place where meals are served and where meals are actually and regularly served, without sleeping accommodations, such place being provided with adequate and sanitary kitchen and dining room equipment and seating capacity of at least seventy-five (75) people at tables, having employed therein a sufficient number and kind of employees to prepare, cook and serve suitable food for its guests. An establishment shall be eligible for licensure as a restaurant in accordance with this part, if the establishment is open at least three (3) days a week, with the exception of holidays, vacations and periods of redecorating, and if the serving of meals is the principal business conducted each day the restaurant is open...

where does the 50% come in? (I am learning here, so be gentle)

Bredesen Waits On Veto For Guns In Bars

Updated: Tuesday, 11 May 2010, 7:57 PM CDT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen will wait to decide whether to veto a new bill to allow handgun permit holders to bring their weapons into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

Bredesen vetoed a similar measure last year flanked by law enforcement and prosecutors who opposed the bill, but he was easily overriden by the Legislature. The law was later declared unconstitutionally vague, so lawmakers this year passed a new version to try to eliminate any ambiguities.

Last year's version sought to exclude establishments that predominantly serve alcohol, but Tennessee makes no legal distinction between bars and restaurants. This year's bill makes no exclusions for where guns can be carried, as long as permit holders don't consume alcohol.

Bredesen appeared unpersuaded by the changes to the bill: "It hasn't been made any better."

I call BS. He has already decided he is just waiting until the last minute.
