Post up your: Favorite Coyote Gun!

Recommended Posts

Hunting101's thread, as well as many other "Post up your _______" threads inspired this. Thought it may be fun to see what everyone is using, so, post 'em up!

Below are pics of my favorite, with my favorite hunting buddy shooting it. Remington 788 chambered in .22-250.

A .223 is alright but a .22-250 is better. I've got a .223 in a Savage 110 and wish I'd got the .22-250. I bought the .223 because of cheap military brass. I found out later that the mil-surp brass ain't what its cracked up to be. If I had a pic of it, I put it on here.

I agree. I have several rifles chambered in .223 / 5.56, and they kill coyotes as dead as anything else, but the power that the .22-250 puts them down with is amazing in comparison. 55gr bullet moving (very accurately) at nearly 4k fps absolutely body slams them. King of the .22 caliber cartridges for accuracy, versatility, and power, imho

I have yet to take up coyote hunting, but was planning to when I purchased this rifle. It's one of my favorites to shoot though, so I know it will be a joy to use when I do get around to hunting them.

The camo one.

If I do take a liking to coyote hunting, which I'm sure I will, I will most likely also pick up a bolt action of some sort in .22-250.

2.) I like that R-15....a lot. How does it shoot?

Personally I think it shoots excellent. I don't have a huge amount of AR experience, but from what I can tell there's not a single thing I'd want to change about it as far as how it shoots (trigger pull, etc.) From the bi-pod I can pretty much put every shot in a quarter or better at 100 yards. Also my father was taking his turn with it and decided to get happy and fire all 30 rounds as fast as he could pull the trigger, and even firing that fast was able to keep every shot in about a 5-6" circle at 100 yards. So far is has been one of those "boringly accurate" rifles where it seems like you can't miss what you're aiming at.

Good taste Good Steward! I'll get a pic posted later, but my favorite is also my Rem. 788 in .243. First rifle I ever bought with my own money in either 1969 or '70. Been busting coyotes with it now for 40 years. It's still my favorite rifle, I guess because I'm most used to it, but also because it is so versatile a round, and very, very accurate right out of the box.
