This seems to be a disturbing trend. Their have been what seems like a lot of shootouts in the last year so. These criminals aren't scared and it seems like they are going after cops at will. I've hear some spokesmen speaking of a war against cops by these thugs.

As a LEO myself, it is a reminder that you never know what you will face when

you show up for work. There was a time when a subject would hesitate to

fire on an officer. No longer the case. Life means nothing to these people

anymore, regardless of occupation.

One of the Deputies from that dept. said he helped the perp to get his permit, and the paper said a wittiness also said he fired more then 50 rounds in one burst from a high powerd rifle .

These stories seem to be consistent with the apparent overall decline in society. Sometimes I wonder if these trends are real or if they just appear to be real by that I mean, is it truly "worse" out there now than, say, 50 or 75 years ago or is it largely perception?

I don't know the answer to that...just sort of thinking out loud.

Whether a real, long-term trend or not; there was a time in my young adult life when we only carried guns to go hunting/shooting...it just didn't seem necessary for self-protection...now, whether I'm being paranoid or just prudent, I don't want to go anywhere without a gun handy.

You keep hearing about how the overall numbers have declined, but apparently those that remain have become even more voracious.
