I would say that is probably a good neighborhood. It is not that old. I think most of those houses have been built within the last ten years or so. If you or your spouse like shopping, that's pretty close and centralized to all of the newer stores and mallish stuff in town, like the Avenues on Medical Center Parkway and all of the stuff on Hwy 96/Franklin Road.

Traffic on that side of town can be a booger. Hwy 96 around both sides of the interstate is a hot spot for congestion. Medical Center Parkway is not as bad, but there are traffic lights every four feet, it seems.

If you have kids, you are right on top of the "Blackman" conglomerate of schools. Elementary all the way through high school is right down the street and around the corner on Blaze Drive, could walk if you really wanted to no problem.

As far as guns and shooting, that is not far from Ontarget, a gun store with an indoor range. I couldn't speak to the range due to I've never shot there but the store is well stocked. Personally, I think a little on the high side on prices but everybody has opinions about that. You are also close to I-24 which if you take towards Chattanooga down to Exit 89, you'll find the Outpost Armory. They have a rather large selection of stuff as well. I like that store better than Ontarget, and I've bought some stuff from the Outpost. Further down the interstate to Winchester, you'll find Hero Gear, a supporting vendor here on this forum. I've never been there but there have been alot of praises of them posted here on the forum.

Thanks for all that info. My wife says those schools are supposed to be pretty good.

It's been a little tougher then we had expected to find a rental out there.

I lived in the Blackman area and went to Blackman middle and high schools. My family still lives very close to there. The schools are as good as any other schools in the county, if not better. I graduated with honors and as the student body president in 2008.

Overall it's a pretty good area. I had a car window broken once but my car was parked on a street with no street lights and the neighborhood was still under construction so there were not many houses (witnesses) around.

Traffic will be the most bothersome on fortress blvd because it's currently under construction. It's really, really close to I24 and highway 840. Highway 96 isn't too bad until you reach cason ln and 96.

As for shooting you have two options:

1) go to On Target (pretty close but gets expensive fast and is limited to 25yds) or a rifle range in the mid TN area.

2) make friends with someone that likes guns and has land 15 minutes outside Murfreesboro (what I did, but then again I have lived in this area for 20 years).

Feel free to ask me more questions about the area.
