SW M&P compact .40 cal

Recommended Posts

Looking for feedback on anyone's experience w/ this pistol. I'm looking for my first carry weapon and this SW felt really good in my hand. The grip on the glock 23 was too big for my hands and the grip on the compact XD didn't feel as good as the SW. I have a buddy that has a sig 229 that I'm going to get to shoot but price is also a consideration.

I have one, love it. I don't have any experience with other pistols so I can't compare (I've been carrying for 7 months now; never owned a gun before) but it is a fine weapon. Shoots well, concealable, and good for lefties (yeah, me).

Thanks guys for the feedback. I was able to shoot a few different pistols today. Beretta 96FS (I believe) .40SW, a sig229 .40sw, SW 357 revolver, a SW 38 special revolver, and a ruger KP95 9mm. I probably shot the beretta the best and the grip felt better in my hand more than the others. The sig shot great but is still a little "fat" for my hand. I really enjoyed shooting the revolvers. I think I like the simplicity of them. The ruger is definately too fat for my hands. It operated smoothly but it shot just "ok." I'm gonna go back and fondle the M&P again and try the Walther PPS on for size. Does anyone know of a mid-tn gun range that has the M&P available to rent?

Last time I was at On Target they had a M&P of some variety up for rent.

Or, If you come to the meet tomorrow, you are more than welcome to try out my full size M&P 9.

If the sig 229 was to big for your hand you should try the 239. It has a single stack mag and feels just about right in my hand. It and the m&p compact fit me just about right.

Thank you so much EasilyObsessed for the offer but I'm not able to make it out today. I'll check into Ontarget though and see. For some reason I haven't been able to access their website lately but I'm going to go out there and see what I can get my sweaty lil paws on.

Thanks for the tip 2000Silverz28!!! I really liked the Sig and I've heard nothing but great things about them. I'm going to check Sig's website and look at the dimensions.
