Why so many secrets for our own good?

Secrets are only secrets because of the source of the information. Exposing the source can compromise the source of the information leading to the potential that it may never be a source again or deter other sources from producing information that can protect this country.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." (Ben Franklin)

I'm all for killing terrorists, but I'm not really sure I trust the Obama administration to determine who is and is not a terrorist...and if the alleged terrorist is a US citizen...

I have no problem with them taking Anwar al-Awlaki out...

Don't put yourself in that situation = no worries.

Ding ding ding... we have a winner. The CIA has been killing threats since they opened their doors. They just haven't bragged about it until recently. Hope they learned their lesson.

I think it is easy to say that taking out terrorists is good and that if we don't do anything wrong we won't be on the list, but "wrong" is an ever evolving word. Political and social climates can change rapidly. What once was right can quickly become wrong. Various sectors of the gov't have already attempted to brand people as homegrown terrorists based on reasons that could be as simple as supporting the Tea Party. I know this sort of thing is nothing new, but that doesn't make it kosher.

I'll admit, I'm actually amazed at the trust some have in our government not to abuse this.

It's not so much having blind trust in the Government. In fact, I making sure not to re-elect any incumbent until Washington pulls it's head out of it's a$$. I just don't automatically assume there are sinister forces at work. To suggest such thoughts of conspiracy implies that our government is somehow competent and effecient.

Our government is corrupt there is no denying that. However, someone needs to make these choices. It is our responsibility as Americans to vote the the best person to make the decisions. Unfortunately no politician in the system is worth a **** and that goes for the Military Politicians as well.

I hope there is a huge wave of right wing extremism at the next election. if it doesn't happen there, we could be toast.

With the direction our government is going in you may be right. We need people more interested in upholding the constitution rather then trying to get reelected.

You think having a small group of officials who can order the killing of 'enemies of the state' (as defined by them) is somehow so complicated they can't pull it off?

Sure it's possible, but not probable. Most of the people on that panel aren't political appointees, they are people that have been in the intelligence/military business for a long time. These aren't the types that are going to make decisions lightly or out of pressure from some sinister, behind-the-scenes boogyman.

And that somehow makes them trustworthy? Janet Napolitano alone makes any list you could

come up with suspect as Hell. Homeland Security was a real mistake. TSA love pats was. also.

What types are they really? Do you know any of them? I don't doubt for a minute there are political

influences because of Napolitano's remarks about Tea Partiers and soldiers. What's really funny is the

idea that some on here like the idea of those little fools trying to disrupt Wall Street and the unions

and Media Matters types joining in. I don't see our great Homeland security tagging them as terrorists.

but, I didn't expect them to be, since they're commies. What kind of crap is Van Jones? A self described

communist. check out what he wants to/ is doing right now. He is part of the organization doing this.

And some of you folks love your liberty so much to trust the government? Grow up!

Trusting your government is a dangerous and risky proposal.

Well, no I never said that I blindly trust the government. I just know that usually things aren't one extreme or the other... it's usually somewhere in the middle. If this was someone who was a Tea Party leader or political opponent I would be raising an eyebrow, but I'm not going to deny what is self evident which is that Awlaki was a terrorist. If this panel somehow decides to compromise their careers and livelihoods/freedom in order to assassinate an innocent American Citizen abroad in a big conspiracy to abuse power, I have a feeling it will be pretty obvious, like porno; you'll know what it is when you're looking at it.

Secrecy and due process are mutually exclusive to me.

deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law

Those 11 words are written into the Constitution twice.

I've been around long enough to see the government make judgment mistakes as well as act on bad information.

We all have our own perception and this is quacking like a duck in my mind.
