German Shorthaired Pointers

Recommended Posts

What do you know about them? Personal experiences that is. I've been reading up on them online and have two friends with GSP (one male and the other female). I think I am going to buy myself one as a graduation present next may. So far I haven't found much on male vs. female but I am leaning more towards female as of now. As for price I think I'd be looking at $800 for one from a "reputable" breeder and $400 for shots. Which is not bad for start up on a puppy. Any insight is welcome!

Great dogs very smart and trainable. Most need a lot of exercise or can be very hyper and anxious. If kept indoors you need to make sure you have enough time to dedicate to exercise. If kept in a back yard they have been known as escape artists.

If I were you I would evaluate my living situation and free time and the. Make a decision. But this is pretty much them same with any hunting breed dog.

Good advice. +1

I would also stress the importance of evaluating your living situation and free time. During next few months when you're out having a good time think about your furry friend at home waiting for you. Also think about your $1200. dollars running all over your neighborhood when he/she escapes.

Being a college grad your life is just about to begin with many unknown experiences falling in your lap.

You may dislike cats but if you need companionship, they are a lot less trouble.

Good luck.

Never really been a cat fan and yeah I'm definitely waiting until I graduate (next May). I've always wanted one and I know there are a lot of angles here. Exercising it would not be a problem right now, however I do not know exactly what my future holds. Anybody have one here?
