New to forum and also gun laws in general so don't be too hard on me....

my son who is 14 received a Remington .22 rifle for winning a contest at a local fundraiser.

What is required, if anything, regarding ownership this gun?

Thanks.

Without registration, there is nothing on paper in TN as far as showing "ownership" of a weapon. In the thread strickj mentions you'll see the ATF says a firearm can be given to a juvenile as a gift. Just note sometimes "handguns" are referenced and sometimes all firearms in the thread.

There really is nothing in TN law about juvenile possession of long guns, just handguns, see 39-17-1319

welcome to the forum!

Your son is allowed to have it, it's a gift. I would say though that you should learn what you need to know *i.e. the 4 basic rules of safety by Col. Jeff Cooper, and teach that to him. I would also submit that you use parental supervision whenEVER he shoots.
