Only thing I was cited for was driving without my DL on my person. The judge saw it made a smirk and said dismissed.

Well, good for you I guess. I agree that it can be construed as a cheap charge, but the Driver's Handbook is clear. What grounds were used for dismissal ?

It was three days after christmas and they got me at a road block. The judge in my county is pretty reasonable guy and realized it was a simple mistake he has probably made at one point in his life. Had I been carrying I would have hated to seen what the ******* would have done.

Makes sense. I think they typically just write you up to make you go to court even though they usually dismiss it. Its a way of saying "you really need to keep this with you or else we're going to take up your time."

I've questioned myself whether i would do this when i became a LEO...honestly... i probably would. Its not a macho thing its just i'm really anal about rules and such. I believe if there is a law in place for it it should be followed. Cant rely on accidents.

If everyone has accidents we have this happen.

Man: I was cleaning my gun and it went off and killed this guy.

Officer: Was it an accident?

Man: Yes... i forgot it was loaded.

Officer: Well, ok. I guess i'll let you go with just a warning this time.

Obviously what happened to you isnt as "severe" as blowing someone from existence...but you get the point.

Yea but forgeting a DL is a little different. If i was a cop I wouldnt wright anyone a citation for something I could verify by calling in. It only took a few seconds of his time. I think cops should be here to protect and serve not harass. I would have understood if I had ran a red light or been DUI but forgeting your DL or HCP is very easy. I had just gotten home from work and changed clothes and forgotten to put my wallet in my other pants.

Everytime I stand up from sitting down I tap my back pocket to see if my wallet is still there. It's fallen out a couple times before.

I normally don't have that problem. the chain attached to my wallet keeps it from going to far out of my reach...

I suggest everyone get a few duplicate HCP's, for reasons such as this. You can get as many as you'd like. I keep one stashed in both vehicles and work truck.

To receive a duplicate handgun carry permit:

  • You will need to complete an application. To receive an application by mail call toll-free 1-866-849-3548.

  • Complete and sign your application. Mail the application,

CERTIFIED PROOF of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (no photocopies; documents will NOT be returned) and the $5.00 fee payable by check or money order to the following address:

  • Tennessee Department of Safety

    Handgun Permit Office
    1150 Foster Ave.

    Nashville, TN 37243-1000

  • You may also get your duplicate application at any driver license service center. The driver license service center cannot issue the duplicate handgun carry permit.

  • Incomplete applications cannot be processed.

Why can't the folks at our good state get their crap together. You have one, you should be able to go online, pay the money and a few weeks, it should show up in the mail or go to the DL place, pay your money by credit card, and get it immediately.

Because any government organization always takes the path of most resistance . The system really needs to be streamlined.
