So i went into the Dunhams in columbia today. They had Wolf Classic 7.62 x 39 for 9.99 per 20, and I thought that was crazy............

Then I go into KIngs firearms and more in downtown Columbia. I looked at the handguns for a while, nothing out of line, then I saw a bunch of Remington UMC 115 gr 9mm FMJ, I mean a bunch, probably ten thousand rounds. As I got closer I saw why......39.99 for 50 rounds of UMC 9mm!!!! They also had, no crap, probably 50,000 rounds of UMC 55gr .223 by the front door. Didn't even look at the price. Whats the most ridiculously priced thing you've seen, and where was it?

They told me its because they get it from a distributor. Places like academy and dunhams gets it from the manufacturer. Said the dist. markup was making it more expensive. Good people in there though. Hope the market gets back to where is was.

I refuse to go into Kings anymore, just like I will never again order from CheaperThanDirt. Teds marked stuff up but not too badly.
Lock and Load is real small so doesn't have a huge inventory but Gary is extremely fair with his prices.
As noted above Academy and Dunham's can get better prices, so less markup to the end buyer. Only problem with Dunham's is I haven't seen pistol ammo there in months.

Was at Kings last week. Guy in there told me they drove to Georgia somewhere to pick up ammo and bring it back. I only go in now and hang a right to look at the Tac side. Little high on firearms, especially on the used stuff, which 75% of there inventory.

So that would mean no Tn Ammo tax stamp huh? I'll tell you, I was suprised but out of the four gun stores I went to the other day, Steve's Archery is the one I'll be spending money at if I'm in the Columbia area. I always liked Specialty Arms in Lavergne, but I've heard they have jacked up a lot of prices.

Forgot to mention the little store in the Kroger shopping center with the "Guns For Sale" sign out front. He had about ten boxes of Federal .22LR "on consignment" for 49.99 a box.....

That is Lock and Load - Gary the owner is a great guy. He told me he almost refused to try and sell that ammo at the requested price but ended up taking it on consignment. His prices on his inventory are very fair, but with such a little store he cannot keep much inventory but I have priced ordering stuff through him before and it is reasonable. Gary is a range officer out at Mary Co Gun Club as well.

I forgot to mention Steve's early, glad you brough him up. Prices there are normally very fair and Darrell always has a good selection of firearms. His reloading component shelves have been kept bare, at least when I have been able to swing by the store.

Ok, I wasn't sure what that store was called,he seemed like a real friendly guy, but with such limited space, as you pointed out , I sure would'nt fill it with "consigned" items that have zero possibility of selling and might tarnish my reputation. But it is his store so more power to him....I just won't be back.

And on Steve's , FDE Gen4 17 and 22 for 599 ea. , ARs for normal prices, and he had about 15 boxes of HST 230 +p for $45 per 50, which seemed high, but when you pay 39.99 online and have it shipped.....seems like a decent price to me. They will be getting any business of mine.

I thought that store burned down and he was operating out of his house now? At least that's the way I understood it.

It did burn down, but they rebuilt. I got by there about a month ago. They had a Remington R1 Carry that was unbelievable, either the series 80 trigger isn't all that bad or this one was made on a good day. They had what appeared to be their old stockpile of handguns, but at the time had only one battle rifle,a Bushmaster ACR and i want  to say it was 3499 or 3999 :stunned:
