.40 S&W in a 10MM revolver is good to go. Semi auto not a great idea as you are holding the round with the extractor although it is done by some.

Don't try 10mm in a .40 S&W though.

I know that I can shoot 38 cal in a 357 cal gun but I was wondering if there are any other combinations of ammo that can also be interchanged like that.

There are actually quite a lot when talking straight walled cartridges. Many exist, but many have also become obsolete over the years. General rule of thumb is that if it is straight walled...there are several different relevant/irrelevant chamberings of different length.

For example they actually made a .357 maximum that (if you really wanted to) could be "made" to shoot the following with little difficulty...

----------------------------------

.357 Max --> .357 Mag --> .38 super (with moon clips) --> .38 Special --> .38 Long Colt --> .38 Short Colt

----------------------------------

A revolver chambered in .454 Casull will also fire the .45 Colt

And one chambered in .460 S&W will fire all 3.

/This is fun...there are a LOT of combinations that people generally don't know about. Another obscure one...your pristine .475 Linebaugh will also safely shoot .480 Ruger cartridges.

Don't forget that your .22lr will shoot .22 long and .22 Shorts as well as old school .22cb (conical ball - a bb) if you can find them. However you can NOT safely shoot any of these in a .22 Magnum gun.

You can shoot .32s&w long and short in a .32h&r magnum gun... and the new .327magnum guns will shoot all four.

You can shoot .45acp in pistols chambered for .45super.

You can shoot .38super in pistols chambered for 9x23 (and sometimes vice-versa, the 9x23 is higher pressure than even .38super +p)

What about .380 in a 9x18 caliber?

Will that work?

The .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) (also referred to as the "9 mm Short", "9 mm Browning", "9 mm Kurz", "9 mm Corto" or "9x17mm") pistol cartridge is a rimless, straight-walled pistol cartridge developed by firearms designer John Browning. It was introduced in 1908 by Colt, and has been a popular self-defense cartridge ever since.
