I have a small hive. Last harvest I got a gallon of honey and 17 squares of comb honey. Not sure what I'm going to do with it all :)

My neighbor at my BOL has a hive and harvests it. Very good stuff, call me weird but I LOVE snacking on the comb in the bottom of the jar.

Well, I now have 6 beautiful jars of Terry's honey and plans for hot biscuits in the morning. Met Terry and his wife and they are both great folks for sure. Enjoyed the short time we both had to talk and look forward to spending more time with them in the future......... :up: :up:

buddy of mine here in Clarksville has two hives he started earlier this year. I might do it as well next year but I can trade him labor for honey :)

 

hes claiming a few people in our area club getting $100/gallon for the stuff!

That sounds about what I have been hearing. But the farm that sells its stuff in Whole Foods is at around $5/lb.

Besides being good to eat -  honey is also used in wound treatment.  I've used it on gangrene and several other serious infections/ wounds in the jungles & mountains of South America.  Doctors here used to poo poo the idea but the AMA is reporting about US doctors experimenting with honey infused pads now.  The idea is that the bacteria & such go after the easier free sugar on the wound and get ambushed from the rear, no pun intended, by normal antibiotics.  We always kept a jar in the first aid kits whenever we did rural work.

honey is pretty well a forever food. if it crystalizes, you can heat it up or add water to it to make it "honey" again. might be slightly off but I don't think so.

Don't add water. Just warm it in a double boiler. Consumable honey has been found in Egyptian toumbs.

Yep. Water dilutes the honey and could allow things to start growing in it. Much of the work the bees do is flapping their wings to dehydrate the honey.
