Hey Grandpa, what's for supper?

What better way to start off the New Year than with game and fish taken in 2013

 

 Wild boar shoulder slow cooked over Hickory Wood with a good smoke flavor that's awesome good..

 Deer roast slow cooked in the crock pot seasoned with onion soup mix with carrots and Tater's, and plenty will be left for us to eat later!

 Turnip Greens, Blackeyed Peas and Smoked Rainbow Trout

All chased down with Iced Tea, Abbey Ale and Oatmeal Stout!

A little boy once asked him "Hey Grandpa, what'[s for supper?" He replied "Fried Bicycles you little b#^##&!"

 

I work with a guy who asked him that once in passing, and got a single finger salute in return. I guess it loses it's humor after being asked so many times. :)

Good story. In some cases (jmo) I think acting and real life are 2 different personalities.

I think you're right. I had the pleasure of being an extra in a Patrick Swayze movie (North and South) and he was really a good guy just to talk with. But with him (as with many others I'm sure) his attitude on and off set was totally different. ON set he was dead serious about everything. Off set he was really funny to be around and talk to. It sure broke my heart when he died though.

No game here today.  Had hog jowls, black eyed peas, jalapeno cornbread, and fried potatoes, most of which was cooked in cornbread.  Pretty dang good!

 

On another note, I had always heard that Grandpa Jones was quite the butthead in real life.

We had backstrap n gravy, boiled cabbage, black eyed peas, and cornbread.

Had ham and biscuits for breakfast so we went minute steak for supper. No hog jowl this year cause I didn't feel like going to the store. I reckon ham's gonna have to be lucky this year.

And I thawed a butt out to smoke but Iwent hunting yesterday evening and got lazy today. I'll fire it up in the morning before work and let my wife take care of it. Edited January 2, 2014 by JWC

JWC; That sounds pretty darn good! Someone on one of the other threads posted a recipe for Red Beans and Rice. I need to find that recipe because today just seems like a RB&R kinda day.

Supposed to say cooked in cast iron, not cornbread.  That was some good cornbread though!
