I felts I understood the AR-15 platforms operating system well, but I learned a fair amount about how the whole operating system works from this video and thought I would share.

He did have some good info...

I wouldn't fix an overgassing issue by using a heavier buffer in the future. I prefere the lightest buffer and the use of an adjustable gas block per Dolomite's advice.  With overgassing, using a heavy buffer would probably make the kick a little harder, and doesn't adress the extra crud backing into the gun.

I also don't agree with using the heaviest possible buffer. Just my preference.

The heaviest buffer is almost 1/3 pound and in a game were ounces matter that is a lot. I run a carbine buffer in all my guns, including guns with rifles stocks, and tune the gas to the carbine buffer.

It absolutely is amazing at how much cleaner an AR will run with a properly set gas system.

nsz85 puts out some of the better YouTube videos.  Very clear and easy to understand, his lower build video is one of the best.

On the subject of Over or Under gassed, you can also check the ejection pattern.  I have used a version of this chart for several years.
