Montgomery County Shooting Complex

Recommended Posts

I've never been here before and I want to take my AR out for some zeroing and testing.

I want to zero at 50yds then see how it groups at 100, 200, and if I'm on my game 300 yds.

I want to be able to shoot from a  supported position, I don't care if it's prone or seated at a bench.

What should I bring with me beyond eye/ear pro, the rifle and ammo? (I understand its an outdoor range and I need to dress for the weather, but do I say need to bring a mat for not laying in the mud?)

What should I anticipate buying there? Should I try buying it elsewhere?

Whether or not you shoot prone is up to the range officer. Generally they wont let you shoot prone, but I've been there a few times when the range officers where cool with it. Just plan on using the bench to be realistic.

Iv'e shot prone many times at the 400 yard range. Not sure if they let you at the 100 yard.

Depends on the range officer. Some are cool, others tend to be high-speed, tight-wound commando-authoritarian control-freak types.

At times (if the range isn't real busy) we'll let you set up at the end of the benches and shoot prone on the 100 yard line. Prone shooting on the 200-400 yard range is encouraged. No Tracer or Armor Piercing Ammo allowed. Have fun and be safe!

That's why I quit. I didn't like the way folks were being treated/talked to.

I'm planning on going Friday. Just trying to figure out if my pile of green tip is usable

You will have to confirm, but most outdoor ranges only limit those rounds from their steel targets.  Indoor ranges won't let you shoot steel core, some limit even steel jackets using a magnet to clear your ammo.
