is it illegal to sell a gun with a non functioning safety?

I have honestly checked, and checked again the web for federal gun laws on disengaging or removing factory gun safeties, and I have not seen any that have hinted as being a law.  With that said, I would find it plainly unethical to sell/trade/give the gun with a malfunctioning safety.  Now selling the gun as a parts gun, is a different matter.  My final :2cents: on this posting.

Absolutely disagree.  We agree to disagree.  It does matter to some.  When I was in the biz, you would not believe the 1st timers that were very concerned about the gun safety feature.  Can you explain that concern to that person, and explain to that person that the safety is not a critical function.

It still is a feature and not critical to the operation of a firearm. You even said, "gun safety feature"! Just because someone believes something, doesn't make it true. Some people want certain features for items they buy. Air bags are a "safety feature" on cars but have nothing to do with the critical function of a car (a device designed to get you from point A to point B.) Items critical to a firearm's operation are a chamber/barrel, firing pin, and triggering mechanism. Those are critical for a firearm to do what it's supposed to do (fire a projectile down a barrel.)

Heck, find me a gun manufacture who doesn't list a safety as a "feature."

It was a question. You posted that a signed release is all you need for legal reasons, as though it was fact. That doesn’t sound right to me but maybe it is in this state?

The key is wording thing very clearly so the signing party understands exactly what the are agreeing to. Maybe this link for a TN lawyer will help: http://www.hollinslegal.com/blog/liability_waivers_vs_actual_li/
