  1. bought and sold several firearms through the years. If there are no legal requirements, and there are not, don't make it anymore complicated.......the last thing I want to do is act like the gov'ment.
  2. Way to go. Great letter. If you don't care I may borrow a few lines.
  3. There are a lot of good guns out there for the money. I shoot the heck out of a Remington R1. Got a couple of buddies that love their Taurus. If you are simply looking for a shooter/SD gun, don't get too hung up on fit and finish. It sometimes comes at the expense of reliability. Most any of the 1911s mentioned are considerably more accurate than the shooters. Go to a show, handle a few, pull the triggers, then make your jump.
  4. Nitesiters Handgun Night Sights These are cheap and work really well.
  5. Double Bummer! Of course I understand. Lots of people with bigger problems in Chattanooga Area and into Alabama. But sure was looking forward to the class. UNforunately, got another course to attend on the proposed make-up date. Sure hope they have another class in the area soon.
  6. Yep me too: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/54227-r1-remington-report.html#post699627Y
  7. Useful site....just passing along http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm
  8. I am with the majority here. Heck, I couldn't even get my 22/45 apart completely...just didn't like beating it with a hammer to do so. Finally got it back together to shoot and will now simply use a bore snake, gun scrubber, and a little eezox lube. But is a great shooter! This months GUN TESTS magazine agrees.
  9. Just a sidebar: Everyone noticed the increase in shoot-outs since the famous " guns-in-bars" bill has passed.....NOT. Why don't we hear of any follow-up reports by the news about this. Trial going on in Knoxville about a guy that came in looking for trouble and killed a patron. Of course we don't hear about simple SD situations with legal carry now either.
  10. That's what you get when you use your medication for sights:screwy:
  11. If shooting Brown Bear or Silver helps you spend more time at the range....shoot it. Cleaning your gun is a small price to pay. I shoot a bunch of 223 and never had any issues. Reliable and good accuracy. The US used a lot of steel case ammo in WWII and the 45's it was used in still work today. Now Hornady is making steel cased ammo.
  12. :rolleyes:You can't count on the Zoms to be that well prepared
  13. I guess it comes down on how you would want to be treated/informed if you were the LEO. On one hand, there is no obligation to inform; you've done nothing illegal in that respect. If the LEO was going to do a search or asks, then definitely make them aware of the weapon. However, I think if it were me I like the previous post of informing the LEO as part of the initial conversation after he has my CHP in hand.

I would change it up just a little: carry the largest caliber you WILL carry.
  15. Don't get rid of your Taurus if you like it. I know 3 friends that have them. All use them hard, one doesn't clean anything and no problems. He has shot about 900 rds; 600 over 4 days and it's still ticking. They make good guns. They're just not 'designer' brand.
  16. Win AA and Rem STS/Nitro are brass base-non magnetic. BUT the primers are steel and hence 'near the primer' would be an affirmative.
  17. Rio has been manufacturing shot shells in bucksnort for some time now..over a year for sure. They are widely used in sporting clays.......generally a quality shell. As mentioned, the metal base on most shells are steel. Winchester AA and Rem. Premier and Nitros are brass. It is more likely you have a 'sticky' chamber. Be sure and clean the chamber well with a chamber brush. Sometimes polishing with a brass brush wrapped with 00 steel wool is helpful. Just use a varible speed drill and short cleaning rod with the brush attached.

    IDPA Caliber

I think that if anyone reloading follows basic common-sense guidelines, there would be no problems at any stage of pregnancy or raising children. I've reloaded shotgun shells for over 50 years at all stages.......I think me and the kids are mostly normal. I even have had the kids help. Everyone washes their hands afterwards, no eating, drinking etc. while reloading. There is always a small amount of powder and lead pellets around, but unless ingested it's not a problem. Toddlers can be kept out of the room, or be more meticulous in clean-up. Use basic storage precautions with gunpowder.

  20. Hey, I did to, but I thought what the heck. In fact on my critique I told 'em there was a lot of hype....but it was all true! They do include a gun with the $2000 price tag, but if you sign up the the e-mails there are better offers sans gun. Like 'tenn' said, I think multiple classes are a plus, but I'd make Front Sight one of them.
  21. one can see numerous video and read accounts of multiple shots being fired and nothing being hit. These are real life encounters with professional lawmen as well as private citizens. There is a big difference in training for defensive purpose vs. target shooting. I would encourage specified defensive training if that is your goal and purpose. Like you, I have shot for years, but until I finished a 4 day course at Front Sight, I just thought I knew what I was doing. It is money well spent. Additionally, dry practice is mandatory (and cheaper) in developing and elevating your response. I'm sure there are several other courses available, but you will need to continue your 'perfect practice' with purpose in mind.
  22. No bite whatsoever. It has a decent beaver tail. Actually can't think of anything that I would change.
